With North Texas in recovery mode following Sunday’s straight line winds and tornadoes, fundraising activities were shouldering on. While the full committee of The Sweetheart Ball wasn’t able to attend the New Member Tea on Thursday, October 24, at Michal Powell‘s home due to some members tackling home repairs/rebuilding, the vast majority were on hand to meet the new members and to hear about UT Southwestern ‘s research and programs for the prevention and treatment of heart disease that have resulted from the annual gala. Here’s a report from the field:
A blustery, rainy day greeted Michal Powell when she hosted new members of The Sweetheart Ball Committee at the annual New Member Tea on Thursday, October 24. The weather and aftermath of the previous weekend’s tornadic activities did not keep the cracker jack team of cardiovascular researchers and doctors from UT Southwestern from greeting the generous ladies who have raised millions of dollars for their cause.
As the guests like past Sweetheart Ball Chair Lisa Troutt, Joyce Lacerte, Gene Jones, Marilyn Augur, Nancy Dedman, Heather Furniss, Linda Custard, Lana Andrews, Cate Ford, Lynn McBee, Nancy Cain Marcus, Lydia Novakov, Joanne Stroud, Jennifer Clark, Ola Fojtasek, Linda Gibbons and Rusty Duvall and arrived, they had the opportunity to see the albums prepared by Lynne Sheldon of past Sweetheart Balls.
The 2020 Sweetheart Ball Chair Anita Arnold introduced the new members of the committee: Tucker Enthoven, Pat McEvoy, Maryann Mihalopolous, Capera Ryan and Trisha Wilson, who was unable to attend.
UT Southwestern Hospitals VO/CEO Dr. John Warner introduced his colleagues in attendance including Drs. Jarrett Berry, Joe Hill, James de Lemos, Daniel Podolsky, John Rutherford and Sharon Reimold, who arrived late. The doctors provided insight into their research funded by the Sweetheart since the organization was founded in 1982.
Anita also revealed that the annual mega fundraiser will return to Brook Hollow on Saturday, April 4.
