At this morning’s KidneyTexas Inc. brunch honoring the organization’s founding members at Tootsies, President Sandy Secor and The Runway Report Chair Mari Epperson revealed news about the upcoming fundraiser to guests including Ramona Jones, Andrea Alcorn, Barbara Bigham, Donna Arp Weitzman, Rose Gault, Melissa Lewis and AB Aston.
Joining Mari in leadership duties will be blonde longtime KidneyTexas supporters Suzette Derrick and Reneé Winters as honorary co-chairs.
In keeping with the fundraising fashion show/luncheon’s tradition, there will be the presentation of awards. This year’s crop of honorees include KidneyTexas founding member Patricia Cowlishaw’s receiving the Sue Goodnight Service Award and Lynn Dealey and Jan Strimple being presented with the Community Service Awards.
In a surprise move Sandy and Mari announced a new award — The Everson Walls Legacy Award that “will honor an individual or corporation for their dedication to fighting kidney disease.” And the very first recipient is Everson Walls himself, who made headlines when he donated a “kidney to his former teammate, Ron Springs, who lived for several years after the surgery.”
Proceeds from the event at Brook Hollow on Tuesday, September 24, will benefit Baylor Scott and White Dallas Foundation, Camp Renal, Children’s Medical Center Foundation, Methodist Health System Foundation, Parkland Health and Hospital Foundation, Texas Health Resources Foundation and UT Southwestern Medical Center.
