KidneyTexas Inc. President Sandy Secor went to camp recently. No, it wasn’t Camp Longhorn or Camp Waldemar. It was Camp Reynal. For one week in May/June, this residential camp hosted by Camp John Marc “provides a true summer camp experience for children with renal and urology disease.” The kids get to take part in swimming, canoeing, fishing, horseback riding and all types of fun activities.
In addition to the activities, medical specialists are provided by Children’s Medical Center Dallas, Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth and The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio.
This getaway also provides “the opportunity to interact with others with the same medical diagnosis, thus addressing issues of isolation and self-esteem.”

While Sandy didn’t take part in the canoeing and horseback riding, she did tour the camp with former camper Jeremy Ament and camp leaders Julie Warner and Paul Nguyen. In making the rounds, she watched Camp Director/Children’s Health’s Dr. Ray Quigley play his violin for kids on dialysis.

Upon her return to Dallas, Sandy and her KidneyTexas Inc. committee finalized the 2019 beneficiaries that include Baylor Health Care System Foundation, Camp Reynal, Children’s Medical Center Foundation, Texas Health resources Foundation and Parkland Health and Hospital Foundation.
The announcement comes just in time for KidneyTexas Inc.’s annual Runway Report fashion show and luncheon. This year’s fundraiser at Brook Hollow Golf Club on Tuesday, September 24, is being chaired by Mari Epperson with fashions from Tootsies. Sponsorships and tickets are available here.
For 20 years, the KidneyTexas Inc. members have raised over $3.5M for local efforts to improve the ability to diagnose and manage kidney disease.
