No one would have suspected that the Salvation Army DFW Metroplex Command had had an overnight nightmare on Tuesday, May 7. But, as guests arrived at the Winspear Opera House for the 28th Annual Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary Fashion Show and Luncheon, the ladies and gents of the local Salvation Army were still recovering from their computers being cruelly hacked the day before.
Adding to that, there was a bit of confusion about where to park the attendees’ cars. Was it in the Lexus Red, the Lexus Silver or out in front of the Winspear? Not to worry. All arrived in good shape to check out the Chic Boutique in Hamon Hall and the silent auction items. Among the 535 guests: Tucker Enthoven, Margot Perot, Shonn Brown, Annette Simmons, Kelli Ford, Lana Andrews, Carol Seay, Michal Powell, Wendy Messmann, Meredith Land and Lee Ann White.
Event Chair Elizabeth Gambrell said that husband Eric Gambrell, who sits on the Salvation Army board, had offered to attend. But she said that wasn’t necessary, since it would be a gals event. Evidently it wasn’t quite so girls-only, though, with Gregory Dunbar and Margot Perot Service Awardee Gina C. Jones’ husband, Doug Jones, occupying prime seats.
While the guests checked out the sunglasses in the silent auction and the clothes du jour in the boutique, the talk included Caren Kline’s report that husband Pete Kline was already walking without a cane following his knee surgery less than three weeks before. …Venise Stuart was celebrating her 31st wedding anniversary. … Kim Hext was confiding that she would chair the SAWA fundraiser next year. In other words, she’s going to want to be closet-surfing in the coming months.
Then the guests, including Pat McEvoy, Shelle Sills, Nancy Dedman, Carolyn Swann, Gayle Stoffel, Lisa Cooley, Tracy Lange, Laura Bush, Doris Jacobs and Kimberly Schlegel Whitman, repaired to the Winspear Performance Hall for the formal program and fashion show. WFAA meteorologist Colleen Coyle, who’s volunteered with the Salvation Army for years, served as the emcee. Colleen brought out Elizabeth — who recognized Honorary Chair Jacqueline Fojtasek and longtime SA supporters the Gene and Jerry Jones family — and then SA Major Barbara Rich. Barbara acknowledged Margot, SAWA President Deborah Budge and Margot Perot Service Awardee Gina.
With that, Colleen returned to the stage and said, “All right, y’all. Ready to get this party started?!” That signaled the start of the Jan Strimple-produced fashion show, which featured thumping music and models with big ’80s-style hair wearing fashions by the likes of Gucci, Chanel, Brioni, Etro, Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, Versace, Givenchy, and Vera Wang. The event ended on a sweet note, with a delicious luncheon of quiche, spring salad, and a lemon souffle tart or chocolate lava cake.

Closet Surfing? Thanks for the laugh, Jeanne. Makes my overactive imagination envision Kim Hext in her Chanel wetsuit snorkeling door to door in search of great closet-finds! We all appreciate your nice coverage of such a unique and fun program.
