Not only does Memorial Day commemorate those lost their lives serving in the U.S. military, it also kicks off summer activities, vacations and super-duper sales. Perhaps the best deal is in the BFF category — pets!
For instance, the Dallas Animal Services is waiving all the fees to adopt a dog until Friday, May 31. That means, you get a pooch pal that is neutered/spade, microchipped and vaccinated for free! The driving force for the free deal is because DAS is at 107% occupancy.
And if you’re not into long-term relationships, the DAS is also looking for foster parents. The program “provides a pet in need with a temporary place to recover from a medical procedure, relax away from the stress of the shelter, grown large enough to enter our adoption program, wait for their turn to be transported to a shelter in another area of the country or blossom into an amazing pets.”
Because the spring litters were in overdrive, there are so many kittens in need of fostering, you can have the pick of the litter.
According to White Rock Dog Rescue Co-Founder Lilia Hollis, “We want to help those dogs who have been abandoned to find their forever homes. We have a wonderful network of people who help us in our rescue efforts, and we place about 120 per year in new homes.”
Established in1993 by Lilia and her husband Clay Hollis, White Rock Dog Rescue resulted from their discovering “how many neighborhood dogs were abandoned, and it led them to help one dog, and then another. “
Studio 6 Fitness Founder/Trainer Elizabeth Lindberg said, “We want to support the people and organizations where our clients live and work, and White Rock Dog Rescue is doing a phenomenal work to help pets. As a dog lover, I hope to encourage even more people to meet these furry friends and take one home.”
Studio 6 Fitness is also “hosting a free community class called ‘Plank for Paws’ to raise awareness of dogs needing homes.
