In addition to having New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees as the keynote speaker at its Rising Stars Luncheon fundraiser on Thursday, May 9, at Brook Hollow, After-School All-Stars of North Texas is launching the After-School All-Stars Champion Award.
The first recipient of the new award is business executive/philanthropist Ben Lange, who has served as chairman of the ASAS North Texas Advisory Board for three years.
According to ASAS Executive Director Marissa Castro Mikoy, “Ben has been a great leader for After-School All-Stars. He has helped our organization to grow significantly and is truly a champion for our cause.”
During his tenure, ASAS has expanded its annual fundraising luncheon and was a 2018 Crystal Charity Ball beneficiary, receiving $592,000 to launch the first-ever summer program at E.D. Walker Middle School.
Since opening in 2012, ASAS North Texas’ mission has been “to provide comprehensive after-school programs that keep children safe and help them succeed in school and in life.” It has grown to serve more than 750 students in six high-need Dallas County Schools.
