North Texas is starting to look and feel like Venice. Despite the continuing rains from above, the 2019 Crystal Charity Ball committee floated over to Mary Clare Finney’s Highland Park estate to learn what the theme would be for the black-tie gala on Saturday, December 7, at the Hilton Anatole.
2019 CCB Chair Pat McEvoy, whose passport is a showcase of worldly stamps, announced that the theme would be South American Mosaic with an emphasis on Argentina, Brazil and Peru. While some might select a city or even a country as their theme, leave it to Pat to take on a whole continent. She claimed that event producer Tom Addis had come up with the idea, adding that he was probably scared that she would suggest, “From the Congo to Capri.”
With the evening’s sponsor, Texas Capital Bank’s Keith Cargill, standing by, Pat put it, “From Brazilian beaches to Argentinian glaciers…from colonial Colombian architecture to Chilean towns, the guests’ experience at the ball will capture the beauty of these countries with a sense of adventure. Our goal is to capture the rich heritage and diverse beauty of South America through music, dance and décor that are all reflective of the fourth largest continent’s uniqueness.”
With Mary Clare and Tom in charge of the decorations, the mind boggles with images of gauchos, lamas and Carnaval do Brasil come December.
Before the announcement was made, there were clues being passed around like gorditas, empanadas, ceviche, dulce de leche cookies and Caipirinhas.
As guests departed for their vehicles that were looking like mini-subs, Mary Clare was seen with a rose clentched between her teeth as she tangoed the night away.
While couture designers start sketching gowns, guests are… or should be enrolling in tango and salsa classes.
