Humble Beginnings Luncheon Co-Chairs Gina Landry and Keana Meyer decided to try something different to rally their committee for the Austin Street Center fundraiser. They had ’em come and pitch in for a day of service and a tour of the facility that has an emergency shelter that serves men, ages 45 and older, and women, ages 18 and older since 1983. They also heard about the details for the 35th anniversary event that will be held on Wednesday, May 2, at the Omni Dallas Hotel featuring New York Times best-selling author Bob Goff. Here’s a report from the field:
Austin Street Center’s 35th Anniversary Humble Beginnings Luncheon Co-Chairs Gina Landry and Keana Meyer hosted a day of service at Austin Street Center in lieu of a launch party and provide committee members the opportunity to experience first-hand what the organization is about. Fourteen of the luncheon host committee members like Claire Moore, Jenny Montgomery, Carolyn Miller, Ashley Rutledge, Beth Ewing, Sophia Strake, Charlotte Baker, Rebekah Kay, Julia Rado, Ashlee Kleinert, Jina Kaiser, Kathy Vassallo, Daniel Roby and Joe Flores began the day of service with tour of the facility including the main living quarters and kitchen.
Gina made it a family affair, bringing her daughter, Sophia, along to volunteer. Austin Street Center CEO Daniel Roby shared remarks about the organization’s mission, history in Dallas, every-day-life on campus, amazing success stories and ended with an engaging Q&A.
Next committee members prepared and assembled a yummy lunch from Dickey’s Barbeque including brisket, potato salad, iced tea, rolls and rice crispy treats for more than 100 Austin Street Center clients. For some, it was a first visit, while others were familiar with Austin Street Center’s mission, services and volunteer opportunities. All left having great conversations with Austin Street Center clients and a better understanding of homelessness in Dallas and how to make a difference.
Austin Street Center’s 35th anniversary Humble Beginnings Luncheon will take place on Wednesday, May 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Omni Dallas Hotel and feature keynote speaker, Bob Goff, the two time New York Times best-selling author.
