There is absolutely nothing wrong with stealing. At least, that’s true when it comes to good ideas. Decades ago Tincy Miller proved just that when she attended Atlanta’s Piedmont Driving Club deb presentation and got the idea of having a similar event to benefit the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. The result was the mega-successful Dallas Symphony Orchestra League Presentation Gala with a flotilla of debutantes in white gowns and fathers and escorts in white ties and tails.
Now, those crafty DSOL members have been founded guilty of concept theft again. The find once again has roots in the South — the Delta Supper Club based in Mississippi.
DSOL President Lisa Loy Laughlin along with Event Chair Bettina Hennessy and Co-Chair Renée Querbes Farren have transformed the Mississippi members-only club into an over-the-top Southern Savour Supper Club (SSSC).
How over-the-top? The patron party alone would be enough to set the Delta Club members swooning. It will be held on Thursday, April 25, at SSSC Honorary Chair Sherwood Wagner’s homestead. Anyone who’s attended a dinner for four or a gangbuster affair for top-drawer types knows that Sherwood doesn’t hold back.
As for the big event on the evening of Sunday, April 28, it will be held at Amanda and Brint Ryan’s picture-perfect state, where the grounds are this on side of spectacular. Besides the statuary and the pool with fountains, there’s a mini-replica of their mansion serving as the Ryan’s pooches doghouse. One can just imagine a game of croquet being played, while the onlookers in sundresses and white linen pants sip mint juleps.
In charge of serving up the “family-style dinner” will be none-other than that southern sweetheart Chef Dean Fearing.
The evening’s entertainment will include a private musical performance by Young Strings Musicians and the University of North Texas’ One O’Clock Lab Band plus auctions and a wine-pull.
But unlike the Delta Club, this southern supper feast does not require membership. Guests just need to ante up for a reservation and pick out that cute sundress, dandy bowtie, boater or polo shirt. And don’t forget to schedule a pedicure to highlight those killer sandals you’ll be wearing.
