With SUVs and luxury sedans lining up along Royal Lane, 300 guests including Barbara and Don Daseke, Joanna Clarke, Amy Green, Daniella Giglio, Diana Hamilton, Missy Wyszynski, Reveal Co-Chair Nikki Webb, 2018 CBB Chair Katy Bock and husband Lawrence Bock and CBB co-founder Jacque Wynne gathered at Michelle and Bruce Thompson‘s big, modernistic home tonight for one of the season’s most-anticipated announcements: What’s the theme—and who will do the entertaining—at this year’s Cattle Baron’s Ball?
They didn’t have to wait long to find out. At 7:30 the guests at the party, which was underwritten by the Sewell car company and featured food by Mesero, crowded into a main downstairs room to hear the details from 2019 Cattle Baron’s Co-Chairs Wendy Messmann and Lisa Shirley.
The theme of the 46th annual bash on Saturday, October 19, at Gilley’s Dallas will be the “True Grit” of those affected by cancer, from survivors to researchers, Wendy and Lisa announced. And, who will be the Mainstage performer and the entertainer for the VIP Party? The answers, as a video that was played disclosed, are none other than Keith Urban and Travis Tritt, respectively.
Keith, of course, is the New Zealand-born singer/songwriter who’s been married since 2006 to actress Nicole Kidman. Among the biggest of his big hits are “But For The Grace of God,” “Somebody Like You,” and “Blue Ain’t Your Color.” Travis, who was born in Georgia, has scored such monster chart-toppers as “Country Club,” “Here’s a Quarter,” and “This One’s Gonna Hurt You (For a Long, Long Time).”
As the video credits rolled thanking the Thompsons and sponsors, there was an “oops.” Reveal Co-Chair/PlainsCapital brainster/newly engaged Isabell Novakov‘s name was missing an “l” in Isabell. Oh, well, what the “l”?
Since 1974, the Cattle Baron’s Ball has raised more than $81 million for cancer research. During that time 47 Nobel Prize-winning scientists have received research funding, and 40,000 patients have been able to get treatment.
