According to SPCA of Texas volunteer Eric Broughton,
“There is a saying by American author W. Bruce Cameron that, ‘When we adopt a dog or any pet, we know it is going to end with us having to say goodbye, but we still do it. And we do it for a very good reason: They bring so much joy and optimism and happiness. They attack every moment of every day with that attitude.’
“I volunteer with the SPCA of Texas in honor of my own dog, Gracie, who I adopted from the SPCA of Texas in 2001. She passed away in 2013 and that’s when I began volunteering and fostering other animals. My love for animals and the organization’s mission to protect their joy, optimism and happiness by making sure every animal receives exceptional care and a loving home makes it a great place to invest my free time.
“This holiday season, help change a pet’s life by donating to the SPCA of Texas. Dedicate your donation to a loved one in lieu of purchasing them a material gift and the SPCA of Texas will send them a card, letting them know that you value them and your shared love of animals. Our pets hold a special place in all of our hearts and that is a joy I want others to experience. Your donation will make that possible. Eighty-three cents out of every dollar donated goes directly to animal care, community programs and pet and people services.
“In the same way our pets attack life with happiness, we should fight for their joy. These animals don’t have a voice for themselves, so it’s my job and the SPCA of Texas’ to fight for them every day.
“You can make your gift last all year round by becoming a monthly donor. You can set up your monthly gift for any amount, large or small, because every dollar counts when it comes to saving animals. If you qualify for one of our Giving Circles, you’ll also receive some wonderful benefits all while helping homeless animals in your community.
“Remember, donations to the SPCA of Texas stay right here in North Texas. You are helping the animals here in your community heal and find loving homes when you donate and volunteer. Together, we can all make a tremendous difference in the lives of animals, who often light up our life from the moment they enter it. We hope you consider making the SPCA of Texas your charity of choice this holiday season! To find out more, visit spca.org/waystogive or you can contact the SPCA of Texas at [email protected].”
