MySweetWishList: Genesis Women’s Shelter And Support

Dec 18, 2018 5:30 PM by Jeanne Prejean

According to Genesis Women’s Shelter And Support Communications Director Amy Ridings,

“Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support relies on the generosity of our community year-round to keep our operations running. Because of the kindness of our volunteers and donors, more than 2,500 woman and children who have experienced domestic violence will walk through our doors this year alone to receive critical life-saving services.

“During the month of December, you have the unique opportunity to make a year-end contribution. In addition to feeling good about yourself and teaching your children valuable lessons about giving back, making a contribution before year-end has unique advantages:

  1. “You’ll see some tax benefits. Although you’re most likely donating because you want to give back to your community, there are some great tax benefits as well. Making a monetary donation to Genesis on or before December 31 can actually help offset the taxes you pay at the end of the year. If you’re writing a check, it simply has to be in the mail by December 31 to count toward 2018!
  1. “Individual donations add up… big-time. While it might not seem like your individual donation will go a long way, you couldn’t be more wrong! At Genesis, a donation of only $30 allows a woman and her child a safe night of sleep at our emergency shelter. And for most nonprofits, individual donations make up more than 70% of all contributions!
  1. “The holidays offer a great opportunity to give back. For many, the month of December is an excellent time to realize your many blessings and take inventory of what you’re grateful for. For others, the holidays are a difficult time of isolation and triggers. (If this is you, check out our blog on self-care during the holidays.) If you find yourself in a position of gratitude and appreciation of all you have, why not help someone who may not be as fortunate?

“Everyone deserves a life free from abuse. Your year-end, fully tax-deductible gift will help us provide life-changing services at no cost to the women and children who rely on Genesis each year. Donations can be made online at www.genesisshelter.org/donate or by mailing a check to: Genesis Women’s Shelter, Attn: Alissa Lindsey, 4411 Lemmon Avenue, Suite 201, Dallas, Texas 75219.

“Please make check out to ‘Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support’. In the memo line, write ‘Year-end giving’.”
