2019 Life Lessons Luncheon Co-Chairs Abra Garrett and Heather McNamara have just announced plans for The Elisa Project’s 14th annual fundraiser.
Scheduled for Tuesday, February 26, the event is going in a different direction, literally. It will be held in the Market Hall at the Dallas Market Center.
The additional space will be able to accommodate the keynote speaker. Who is it? It’s going to be Grace Byers, who has been seen on FoxTV’s “The Gifted” and “Empire.”
And while The Elisa Project’s mission has been “dedicated to fighting eating disorder illness through awareness education, support and advocacy,” Grace’s selection is right on target because both she and The Elisa Project place a high priority on self-esteem, especially for girls and young women.
As a multiracial girl growing up in the Cayman Islands and the daughter of deaf parents, Grace was the victim of bullying throughout her childhood and recognized the need to help others suffering from low self-esteem.
In addition to volunteering with the non-profit, anti-bullying organization Saving Our Daughters, she has written “I Am Enough” and been a public advocate in helping others suffering from forms of negativism.
According to The Elisa Project Executive Director Kimberly Martinez, “In addition to her gifts as an actress, Ms. Byers is a dedicated activist against bullying. In a recent study out of the 600 young people surveyed, 78% reported that being bullied led to their eating disorder, so this is a huge topic of awareness for us. Ms. Byers is so empowering and we are so excited for our guests to hear her inspirational story!”
