Despite Friday Night Lights high school football and the opening day of the 2018 State Fair, the 2018 Cattle Baron’s Ball Underwriters who got together Friday, September 28, filled Strait Lane and all the surrounding lanes.
As a ginormous orange sun set in the west, the Jack Boles valets were tackling a real challenge. The narrow streets of the surrounding Preston Hollow area had them trying to find openings to stow the vehicles. And then there was the circular driveway of Kathleen and Scott Kirby’s home. Normally, it was a breeze to accommodate arriving and departing guests. But on this night, there was a mountain of gourds leading along the steps to the Kirby home on one side of the drive. On the other were a couple of horse trailers. Only there were no ponies. Instead, one trailer was a serving ’em up bar. The other was a western-style photo booth topped with the message, “Smile” in lights.
Needless to say, the trailers were a hit with the guests while the valets tried not to hit guests as they crossed back and forth between the house and the trailers. Perhaps a school crossing guard might have helped?
2018 CBB Co-Chairs Katy Bock and Jonika Nix were all smiles hinting at things to come for the American Cancer Society fundraiser at Gilley’s on Saturday, October 20.
As CBB member JB Hayes schlepped in with bags of special passes for underwriters and Amy Green toted in her Yorkie, Precious, Lawrence Bock admitted that his guitar-print shirt was probably making a one-night-only appearance. His thinking was that it was just too memorable to make an encore.
Snapshots: Laura Moon with red fringe jacket and turquoise necklace, earrings and bracelet laughed about being MIA for the Dallas Symphony Gala, where husband Dennis Moon escorted co-worker/married-lady Morgan Kennedy. Now don’t go suspecting things. Laura had to attend her high school class reunion, so Morgan subbed in with her husband’s approval.
Another MIA was Alex Laurenzi mending from a procedure earlier in the day. Wife Elizabeth Tripplehorn Laurenzi was joined by brothers David Cash and Charlie Cash. But Alex wasn’t going to be prevented from being at his and David’s Smoky Rose the following Sunday when they were to do a sneak preview of the restaurant’s new menu items.
Melissa Sherrill explained that sister Kristi Hoyl’s appearance in The Family Place’s recent 2018 Texas Trailblazer video honoring Texas Trailblazer Awardee Michael Sorrell was natural. Seems that before Michel got married, he spent holidays at the Hoyls’ household.
