Columbus Day is a bit of a squirrelly holiday. Yes, it’s a federal holiday which means that some government offices like Social Security, Dallas Passport Agency and U.S. Post Office will be closed. And while the stock market will be buzzing, the Federal Reserve and some banks like Bank of America, Chase and Wells Fargo will be closed prompting some online services like Square to advise their subscribers that “Friday and weekend deposits may be delayed until Tuesday, Oct 9.”
As for schools, it’s up for grabs. SMU, Ursuline Academy, Episcopal School of Dallas and Highland Park Independent School Districts will be closed. On the other hand, Hockaday and Jesuit will be in session.
So, before heading off to the bank to deposit your latest royalty check or waking your kiddos up for school, check the status. But never fear. Movie theaters, grocery stores and retailers will be up and going.
