North Texas Giving Day Booster: White Rock Lake Conservancy

Aug 31, 2018 5:30 PM by Jeanne Prejean

White Rock Lake Conservancy*

One of the White Rock Lake Conservancy’s largest fundraisers of the year, North Texas Giving Day, is Thursday, September 20. This day of online giving helps the Conservancy fulfill its mission, to bring in private donations that help maintain and restore White Rock Lake Park in accordance to the City of Dallas’ master plan.

Private funding for critical updates to White Rock Lake Park is imperative. The heavily used, free park is in need of vital repair and it is up to private citizens to protect our historic park for future generations. The Conservancy was established for this reason alone. A collaboration of the Conservancy, all of the users and caretakers of White Rock Lake and the City of Dallas will lead the way to bigger and better improvements in the park.  This is where North Texas Giving Day comes in, it makes it so easy for people to donate to the crown jewel of the Dallas parks, White Rock Lake.

The current project of the Conservancy is the restoration of the most used picnic area at White Rock Lake Park, the Stone Tables, on the northeastern side of the lake off of Buckner Boulevard. White Rock Lake Conservancy has partnered with local architects and landscape architects to design the renovation of the 88 year old space. The area includes a pavilion, stone picnic tables, a lily pond and restroom. All of these structures were built in the 1930s by the CCC workers and need to be restored in order to keep them around for another 100 years. The Conservancy has given the City of Dallas plans for each area and already donated $130,000 for the renovation of the pavilion and two of the stone tables which have been completed.

The City of Dallas voted to match $280,000 from the bond initiatives to help continue the project but this amount will not complete all phases of the project. We need the citizens of Dallas and beyond that use and love White Rock Lake Park to help us meet our goal of raising $100,000 on North Texas Giving Day. So get up and give on September 20th!
