JUST IN: Hillcrest Foundation Donates $1M For Parkland’s New Comprehensive Breast Center

Aug 27, 2018 3:30 PM by Jeanne Prejean

I Stand for Parkland*

Thanks to a $1M donation by the Hillcrest Foundation,  Parkland Health and Hospital is getting closer and closer to its $40M goal for its Comprehensive Breast Health Center. Word just arrived that the Hillcrest Foundation has donated a lovely $1M resulting in a total of $36M being raised by the Parkland Foundation.

The new Comprehensive Breast Health Center will:

  • increase breast health equity for the underserved,
  • increase capacity to care for more patients,
  • co-locate services to improve access to care,
  • improve patient outcomes and satisfaction, and
  • provide new programs for patients and families.

Speaking on behalf of the trustees of Hillcrest Foundation, U.S. Trust/Bank of America Private Wealth Management Philanthropic Client Director Debra Phares, “The Trustees of the Hillcrest Foundation believe strongly in the direct access and opportunity for quality healthcare to all persons in our community. As we follow the intent of Mrs. [W.W.] Caruth Sr., this grant to Parkland directly aligns with the mission of the Foundation to promote and support healthcare to the people of Texas. On behalf of the Trustees, we are grateful for the work of Parkland and are honored to be a small part in bringing resources together to serve all.”

For newcomers, the Caruth family was among the area’s pioneers who arrived here in 1848. In 1958 W.W. Caruth Sr.’s widow Earle Clark Caruth established the Hillcrest Foundation “to provide financial support to qualified Texas charitable organizations for the advancement of education, the promotion of health and the relief of poverty.”

According to Parkland Foundation President/CEO David Krause, “The Hillcrest Foundation is a champion for advancing the health and well-bring for those in need in every corner of our community. We are grateful for their most recent gift to support the creation of a new breast center that will improve access to life-saving screenings and treatment for Parkland’s patients with nowhere else to turn for care.”

Congratulations to the Parkland crew receiving a generous donation by one of North Texas pioneering families to help future generations. If you would like to join the fundraising, you can donate here!
