Since its founding in 1855, the YWCA has assisted women in facing the challenges of the day. But over the ages, those challenges have changed and so did the name of the local organization. Known nowadays at Wings, its mission is to “empower women, fight poverty and impact generations.”
Thanks to programs like “My Money,” “My Small Business,” “My Career” and “My First Baby” and resources like its Finance and Career, Nurse-Family Partnership and Women’s Enterprise Center, Wings is providing these services at the 20,000-square-foot Ebby’s Place on Inwood Road.
To honor the people and corporations supporting these efforts, the Wings Mentors And Allies Awards Luncheon will be held at the Hyatt Regency Dallas on Wednesday, May 9. Honorees will include the following:
- Individual Awards — Impact City Initiative and Soap City CEO Salah Boukadoum and The Admin Awards CEO Sunny Nunan
- Corporate Award — Mary Kay
- Volunteer of the Year — Dart VP of Human Capital Cheryl Orr
According to Mary Kay Inc. President/CEO David Holl, “When Mary Kay Ash created her company in 1963 with the mission to enrich women’s lives, she clearly understood the power of women mentoring women, and I know the work WiNGS does in the community embodies this same spirit. I couldn’t be prouder to see both organizations aligning so beautifully to empower women, and I am extremely honored to receive this award on behalf of Mary Kay.”
To top the lunch off, Luncheon Chair Dr. Emily Touchstone has arranged to have blonde dynamo/JP Morgan Chase Dallas Region Chair Elaine Agather as the keynote speaker. Time and time again Elaine has proven to be a mentor and role model for countless women in all segments of business and community involvement.
Funds raised from the luncheon tickets, sponsorships and raffle will “support Wings’ relationship-based programs that match women with caring experts and role models who share tools, knowledge and connections for critical crossroads of their lives.
