After a week of chilly Halloweening, Partner Carding and settling into November’s heat wave, this weekend is gonna continue in overdrive for area nonprofits. Saturday, alone, is enough to make one substitute running shoes for stilettos. For instance, there’s Girls Innovate: YWPN STEM Challenge at NorthPark, Zoo To Do at the Dallas Zoo, Jubilee’s 20th Anniversary at the Omni, 2017 DSM Gala at Fair Park’s Music Hall, the Collin County Heart Ball at The Star, Yellow and Black Tie Gala at Renaissance Richardson Hotel, Art for Advocacy at General Datatech and A Conversation with Marty Turco at the Westin Galleria just to name a few.
But don’t let all these fundraisers distract you from a last “Must Do” on Saturday. Yup, it’s that time to set those clocks back an hour as Daylight Savings Time ends officially at 2 a.m. on Sunday. So, before joining Wynken, Blynken, and Nod, set your clocks back one hour. In other words, the sun will shining a bit earlier in the morning and the moon will be smiling at you in drive-home traffic.
Just in case, you’re needing some cocktail topics. Drop this little gem: Saturday will be a lunar showcase with a full moon overhead. According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, it’s called the Full Beaver Moon because “the colonists and the Algonquin tribes because this was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs.”
