What would be an Art Ball without a conversation-making piece of artwork on the bloc? And for the Dallas Museum of Art fundraiser this Saturday, the selection is one that is bound to amaze and initiate all types of interpretation.
2016 Art Ball Auction Item #4: Rebecca Warren, Totem (e.) 2008 (Value: approx. $40,600)
British sculptor Rebecca Warren currently has a solo exhibition at the Dallas Museum of Art “Rebecca Warren: The Main Feeling” through Sunday, July 17. Known for her “restless, sometimes contradictory art reworks varying modes of sculpture in order to sustain a distinct path within the existing histories and languages of art,” her hand-painted clay Totem (e.) 2008 cast in bronze is a perfect representation.
With the pastel pink, blue and yellow paints, the suspended figural seems to convey the emotions of inner strength and turmoil highlighted by the beauty of hope. Perhaps not. But that’s what’s so intriguing about this artwork. It fuels the mind for consideration.
Standing 24 3/8” by 11” by 7 1/8”, experts claim the vertical stature “straddles the line between disparate and seemingly contradictory ideas, holding itself tentatively between figuration and abstraction, assembly and breakdown, seriousness and humor.”
The biggest challenge in addition to winning the bidding is where it should be placed. In your home? In your corporate headquarters? In your private museum?
