Is there an upside to a drought? Farmers, landscapers and fire fighters wouldn’t hesitate bristling, “H_ll, no!”
But there is. Sure for the past six weeks, the weather has been a bit on the warmish side, but it has translated into the “4 S’s” (shorts, sleeves cotton shirts, sun dresses and sandals).
And the venues have seen traffic counts soar as well as $$. Of course, you require proof. For your consideration how about:
- State Fair of Texas has set a new record for attendance and sales “exceeding last year’s $42M record.” According to Fair Spokesperson Karissa Condoianas, “This is now the most successful fair in the 129-year history of the State Fair of Texas.”
Evidently, that isn’t enough proof, so here goes:
- The Dallas Zoo had its millionth guest passed through its gate for the first time in a fiscal year that ends this month. And that was before this stellar past weekend!
- The Fort Worth Zoo also hit the million person mark and did it a day before the Dallas Zoo.
- The Dallas Arboretum reported that in September there was an increase of 13.6% (8,384 people) over the year before. So far in October, the flower power peeps have seen an increase of 39% (20,763 folks) more than 2014. They also reminded that the “12 Days Of Christmas” is less than three weeks away, and they have their “Autumn At The Arboretum” is underway.
These numbers are gratifying since October is traditionally one of the wettest months of the year and not particularly guest-friendly.
But this run is about to end with forecasters hinting that rain is on its way starting Thursday. Enjoy the beautiful weather while it’s here. Old Man Winter is icing up for the months ahead.
