“I would like to share a story, a bitter sweet one that is an example of why we do what we do. I want to talk about one of our long timers, a dog named Morgan. She was abandoned on the streets, blind in one eye from being hit with an unknown object, and she was pregnant.
“Since Apollo Support & Rescue runs a ‘No Kill’ facility, Morgan has been with us for a very long time (over 2 years). Some say living in a kennel has been a horrible life but not for any of our dogs. You see Morgan had a sponsor, a wonderful lady named Patricia. She visited Morgan every couple of weeks. She took her for car rides, and to the local park to play and even for a cheeseburger now and then. She loved Morgan but had two dogs at home that would never accept a third dog. Patricia did what she could to make sure Morgan was loved and spoiled. Last month Morgan began to lose weight for no reason. She became tired and lacked an appetite, we all were very concerned.
“The veterinarian gave us the horrible news. Morgan had liver cancer and a huge tumor growing inside. She would not make it much longer. Patricia who lost her husband to liver cancer knew exactly what to do. She prepared her home so Morgan could have her own safe room and space to live out the few weeks she would have left. This is not the only thing she did. She created a bucket list for Morgan. It contained things like a canoe ride, visiting a train, picnic in the park, bike ride, walk in the lake, bring your dog to work day, and many other things. The pictures I will share have a thousand words. Morgan passed away this month living only about three weeks after her diagnoses. We could not have been able to take Morgan off the streets, get her medical care, provide a place for her to live, and feed her without the generosity of people giving and opening their hearts to homeless animals.
“We currently provide shelter, food and medical care for 50 animals in our facility. Last year 350 animals found their forever homes because of people like you. Thank you. Join us on North Texas Giving Day, September 17 and donate to Apollo Support & Rescue so we can help more dogs like Morgan.
