“The Dallas Makerspace is an education focused non-profit. But it may not be the education that immediately comes to mind. Instead of lectures and assigned reading, our focus is on adults getting access to all of the tools and hands-on instruction they need. We believe that true learning takes place through action.
“Want to learn about furniture design? Take one of our classes on 3D modeling software to design a table. Then after the proper safety instruction, get your hands dirty and use our complete woodshop to take it from vision to reality.
“You’ll make mistakes along the way but that’s where our community comes into play, helping you to learn all that you can. You’ll get to learn from experienced woodworkers and even teach fellow students who are at the level you were at just a month earlier.
“Woodworking is just one example of many. We have instruction on everything from welding to pottery to starting your own podcast. And we have the equipment students need to truly learn their intended crafts.
“This is the first year the Dallas Makerspace is participating in North Texas Giving Day and we’re excited at the fundraising possibilities. Those extra dollars will mean additional tools and classes offered.
“This past year we’ve seen a doubling of estimated people served. With this increase we hope to not only rise to the challenge of providing continued high quality instruction and tools, but to increase the quantity and types of instruction offered.
“On September 12th, the weekend before North Texas Giving Day, we are hosting an open house where the public is invited to come out, take a tour of our 16,000+ square-foot building, and see some of the awe-inspiring projects people have created through classes and hands-on instruction at the Dallas Makerspace. Come join us and then give on September 17 to amplify your gift!
