The healthcare industry has been undergoing dramatic changes in recent years. The great news is that new research has resulted in lifesaving advances and Dallas has become a hub of these developments and services.

On the other hand, due to the business side of medical care, there have been adjustments demanded in the way things have been. Some have been frustrating, like trying to weave through the various insurance issues. But the adjustments have also resulted in hospitals working together to provide better and more targeted care for patients.

One example is the relationship that has been ongoing between Children’s Health and Baylor Health Care System. Both were working with in-patient and out-patient services for youngsters. In some cases, Children’s would direct their young patients to the incredible Our Children’s House at the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

Like Children’s, Our Children’s House has been a warm and loving place where the young patients were treated like royalty thanks to marvelous professionals.

Monday it was announced “that Our Children’s House (OCH) will be closing its licensed specialty pediatric hospital at Baylor University Medical Center effective Sept. 8, 2015. This action includes all inpatient services, the day-neuro and day-surgery programs.”

According to Baylor Health Care System Foundation President Rowland “Robin” Robinson, it was not an easily made decision, but it made sense with the growth of both institutions and their providing the best services for their patients. As Children’s experienced incredible growth over the years, it took the lead on inpatient care for children, reducing the need for OCH’s pediatric hospital.

However, Robin emphasized that “Baylor Scott & White Health will continue to operate nine pediatric outpatient clinics throughout North Texas. These initiatives will continue to serve thousands of patients and their families each year.”

As for the charming building on Hall Street that helped so many little ones heal, it will continue standing and be adjusted to provide other types of healthcare services in the future.
