When it comes to TV shows, the ultimate survivor is Jeff Probst, host of CBS’s “Survivor.” No matter how gut-wrenching the challenges or the final decision, he still manages to be cool, calm and charming. He’s going to bring all those C’s to Trinity Groves on Thursday, November 5, for the Taylor’s Gift Foundation’s “Outlive Yourself Awards.”
According to newly appointed Taylor’s Gift Executive Director Emily Allbright, “”This will be an annual event where we will honor those who are truly outliving themselves.”
Oops, what’s that? What’s Taylor’s Gift? Great question. Here’s the answer: During spring break in March 2010, adorable Coppell 13-year-old Taylor Storch and her family were holidaying in Colorado. There was “a tragic skiing accident” that resulted in Taylor’s being “brain dead.” Despite the horror and trauma of her situation, Taylor’s folks, Tara and Todd Storch decided that despite the fact that Taylor would not survive, she would live on by providing others with her organs.
- Taylor’s heart is beating inside a 39-year-old mother of two in Arizona,
- A 49-year-old husband/father in Colorado is alive thanks to Taylor’s pancreas and one kidney,
- Taylor’s other kidney went to another man in Colorado;
- Two others received her corneas and liver.
The Storches realized that despite their loss, they could “honor Taylor’s many talents and gifts, and especially her ultimate gift: life for others.”
If you can’t manage to attend the fundraiser, then you could consider becoming an organ donor. It’s free and it’s life changing. Someone somewhere is hoping that you’ll sign up.
