With May and its showers in the rearview mirror, June promised a quick start for sunshine and summer temps. Over at St. John on Monday, June 1, Assistant Manager Jamie Hermosillo found himself surrounded by the ladies of KidneyTexas celebrating The Runway Report. In addition to luncheon Co-Chairs Donna Arp Weitzman, Mary Lee Cox, honorary co-chair Vinette Montgomery, Carole Ann Brown and Di Johnston were on hand to hear the latest details of the event.
As for the fashions, fashion producer Jan Strimple is arranging for five scenes, each one representing the participating retailers (Carla Martinengo, Lublu, HPV’s St. John, Tootsies and Vintage Martini).
The day’s big topic was Katy and Lawrence Bock’s donation of an 18-karat gold bracelet highlighted by 101 diamonds that will be auctioned off at the September 22 fundraising fashion show/luncheon at Brook Hollow. With Ron Corning as emcee, the auction should be lively, to say the least. However, the bracelet can be bought right now for $20,000.
Another biggy conversation maker that really hit home was Honorary Co-chair Norm Bagwell’s recovering from successful kidney surgery on Thursday, May 21, and home on Wednesday, May 27. Thanks to the monies raised at The Runway Report, such procedures have made monumental difference in surviving and coping with kidney disease.
This year’s event will honor the professionals who are on the front lines in the battle against kidney disease, including
- Dr. Michel Baum, Children’s Health,
- Dr. Jim Brugarolas, UT Southwestern Medical Center,
- Richard Dickerman, M.D., F.A.C.S., Surgical Director, Kidney and Pancreas Transplant, General and Vascular Surgery The Liver Institute at Methodist Dallas,
- Rabbi William Gershon, Shearith Israel,
- Goran Klintmalm, MD, PhD, Chairman and Chief, Baylor Annette C. and Harold C. Simmons Transplant Institute,
- Dr. Mark Lerman, Medical City Dallas and
- Dr. Henry Quinones, Parkland Health & Hospital System
Table tickets and sponsorships are available now to help support and develop greater advances to combat this deadly disease. Individual tickets and $2,500 tables are already sold out, but there is a waiting list.
