Gee, whiz! Ah, shoot! The Dallas Zoo is sorta looking like the “Dating Game” on steroids. The people types sent out word that six-year-old ocelot Milagre had given birth to a cutie pie baby on March 20th. (Name still pending). Less than a couple of weeks ago, word came out that lanky-legged giraffe Kipenzi had been birthed on April 9 and was definitely strutting her stuff. Then they revealed that a baby penguin was “melting hearts” on Wednesday, May 6. The flapping bird was actually born back in April, but the zoo folks wanted to keep it under wraps until mom and child were perfectly perfect.
Yesterday, the matchmaking zoo staff announced that a change had been made in the courting program among its lion pride. Last month they sent Dinari and Kamaia, two 6-year-old brother lions, to Boston’s Franklin Park Zoo. This isn’t the first time the boys have made headlines. One of them killed the female lioness, Johari, a couple of years ago.
Sending the boys to Boston was a win-win situation for both zoos. The Boston zoo had to euthanize its 21-year-old male lion, Christopher, last month due to declining health. They have no plans to breed the boys, so the guys can just eat, snore and “lion” around.
The boys’ relocation will allow a hunky lion from parts unknown to move into the Dallas digs. The hope is that he’ll get together with 6-year-old lioness Lina.
Don’t rush out to the Dallas Zoo to meet him. He ain’t here yet and will have to be quarantined for 30 days before debuting.
