It just ain’t fair. There are births and then there are losses. That is what the Dallas Zoo has experienced this week.
Everybody at the zoo and their granny have been celebrating births galore, so much so that one would think “Kate” was in the delivery room.
But along with creation comes the reality of death. Today the Dallas Zoo staff is suffering. They’ve lost the matriarch of the elephant herd — 45-year-old “Mama.”
But let’s not mourn her loss. Rather envision her life. It was a full one. She spent her last five years as part of the Giants of the Savanna development, where she was cared for and adored. She will live on in the memories of children who saw her and through her children, great-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elephants are grand creatures and “Mama” was the grandest lady.
