According to Attitudes & Attire® Executive Director Lyn Berman,
“At Attitudes & Attire®, we believe in empowering women who need a fresh start. Attitudes & Attire® is a non-profit agency dedicated to promoting personal growth for women seeking self-sufficiency. Our program provides the tools that raise self-esteem, promote ethics, and build the confidence necessary to develop successful life skills.
“Since our founding in 1996, Attitudes & Attire® has continued to adapt to the needs of the women we serve. Having noticed an increase in female veterans in our workshops, we launched our Boots to Heels™ program in 2012. Exclusively for female veterans, this 4-part program gives women the camaraderie of being with peers who understand the experiences that have impacted them and the challenges they face when returning home. Women are the fastest growing group of veterans today, and Texas has the second-largest female veteran population. While the number of homeless veterans overall is declining, the number of homeless female veterans is growing. Studies suggest that female veterans are up to four times as likely to be homeless as non-veterans.
“Our wish is for our veteran clients to have a happy holiday season. We want to give our veterans and their family gift cards of all kinds – from Target to Toys “R” Us to Visa and beyond. No amount is too small for it to be meaningful! Gift cards will help female veterans like Rosalind, a single mother who is currently living at the Homeless Domicile at the Dallas VA.
