Thanks to the George W. Bush Institute, former Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice has been in and out of Dallas like a Southwest jet. As a member of the Institute’s Advisory Board, her public sightings have been so common that the media rarely reports them. Instead folks just nudge each other when they spot her. Some even approach her and chat with her. Doesn’t faze her one iota.
But there’s another reason that her visits have become more frequent. It’s establishment of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas’ (BGCD) Center for a New Generation (CNG) in Texas.
What the heck is it? Based in Dunbar Elementary School, the program is an “innovative academic and enrichment after-school and summer program” that will “allow the BGCD to integrate schools represented in the DISD Feeder Pattern and Uplift.”
According to Condoleezza, “The Center for a New Generation gives additional learning time and opportunities for those children who may not have the benefits of further exploring their passions and creativity due to disadvantaged circumstances. I’m proud to bring this program to the great state of Texas and to help more children in the Dallas area.”
BGCD President/CEO Charles English reported, “We are thrilled to launch the fourth CNG program in the country and the first in Texas. Our vision has always been to provide dynamic after-school programs that consistently deliver measurable outcome for our students. And, we believe CNG offers one of the best curriculums for STEM and applied arts.”
To officially launch the program, the BGCD will hold the “Great Futures Luncheon” on Wednesday, November 12, in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Anatole. The event will also be the launch of the BGCD’s Great Futures Campaign to raise $1.5M to fund both CNG and BGCD.
