One of the most family-friendly movies of all time was “Back to the Future.” Not only was it extremely G-rated, it had a soundtrack that was unforgettable, especially Power of Love and Back in Time by Huey Lewis and the News. For the longest time, these were the tunes that Jenny Ferguson had her aerobic classes huffing and puffing to and folks drove to work as Ron Chapman cranked it up.
Well, Huey and his merry musicians are coming to North Texas. And, please, oh please, don’t think they’re a one-tune-type of band. They’ve managed to keep that magic beat throughout the decades with nary a sign of ho-hum.
The occasion is the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County Gala on Saturday, April 12 at the Anatole.
Little factoid: The band is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, but did you know they were originally “two rival Bay Area bands in 1979”? Since that coming together, they have sold 20M albums plus had such hits as “Heart of Rock & Roll”, “Stuck With You”, “I Want A New Drug”, “If This Is It”, “Hip To Be Square” and “Workin’ For A Livin”.
According to CAC CEO Lynne McLean, “We are so thrilled to have Huey Lewis and the News joining us for this year’s exciting Gala event. The Collin County community looks forward to Gala each year, and we know our headliner will not disappoint. This event brings much-needed awareness and raises critical funding to provide safety, healing and justice to our community’s most vulnerable children.”
But there’s even more than Huey and the boys. There will be dinner and live and silent auctions plus a raffle for a 2014 Lexus IS. Raffle tickets are going for $50 each with only 2,000 available.
With tickets for the gala starting at $275, the honorary chairs are former McKinney Mayor /City Council Member John Gay and his wife Judy. The reason for their taking on this role? John explained, “Judy and I chose Collin County (to raise our family) because of the family-oriented community. It was important to raise our kids in a place where they could grow up safely. By being involved with the CAC, we felt that not only our children, but all children in our community would have a safe place to turn.”
