According to The Family Place Executive Director Paige Flink,
“We have some ambitious goals at The Family Place in 2014. Here are our top 3:
“Goal #1 is that Dallas will have no domestic violence fatalities in 2014. The Family Place will play a role in making that happen by organizing the new High Risk Offender Team comprised of the Dallas Police Department, Dallas County Criminal Court Judges Rick Magnis and Roberto Canas, Dallas County Probation, Dallas County District Attorney’s office, and other key players. The goal is to speed up arrest and prosecution of lethal domestic violence offenders and get justice and safety for the victims to prevent repeat attacks.
“Goal #2 is to find ways to improve the economic independence of victims who come to The Family Place for services. Thanks to funding from the AT&T Foundation, we are launching Dignity at Work, a new job training, placement and mentoring program for women being helped in our community-based counseling programs. Our 2014 target is 30 women employed at a wage that can support their families and reduce their dependence on abusive partners.
“Goal #3 is to never have to turn away a victim of family violence who is seeking emergency shelter. To meet this ambitious goal, we will need to have great success in our fundraising efforts. Joyce Goss, the president of the board of The Family Place, Inc., will oversee the first $10 million budget the agency has ever had. And Lynn McBee, the president of the board of The Family Place Foundation, has ambitious plans to raise $21 million dollars to endow the organization.
“Because our services can mean the difference between life and death, The Family Place must succeed in reaching these goals. Thank you for allowing us to share them.”
