There’s nothing better than watching a big, old special event on TV with an expert insider. Example: taking in the Super Bowl with WFAA’s Dale Hansen; the Academy Awards with Dallas Film Society’s James Faust; the final Four with the Mav’s Dirk Nowitzki.
So, it makes sense that you’d want one of these know-it-alls by your side to watch one of the country’s longest continuously held sport events — the Westminster Kennel Club’s dog show in Madison Square Garden on Monday, February 10 and Tuesday, February 11.
What’s that? You don’t have a canine companion? Have we got a deal for you! How about a dog from Highland Park Village? No, the retailing gem has not opened a designer pet shop! Oh, please.
Last year’s event resulted in more than “30 stray/abandoned dogs” finding homes.
Speaking of last year’s results, here’s a letter from a veteran of last year’s event, who adopted “Ozzie” (formerly known as “Henry”):
“Thanks for contacting me regarding Henry. His name has been changed to Ozzie! We have always had Bulldogs; when our Bucky passed away suddenly we were devastated. We went without a dog for 6 years. We finally healed & decided we would like to rescue a dog. We wanted a smaller dog we could travel with between our homes in Phoenix & Lake Tahoe, Ca.
“Ozzie is an amazing, fun, sometimes naughty dog!! We love him to bits! He has matured so we experience much less naughty ness I was visiting my sister in law in Frisco, Tx. She drove me to my favorite mall (Highland Park Village). I was thinking about rescuing a dog. Had looked in Phoenix but only found pitbulls, large mixed breeds & Chihuahuas. Then there he was! Soo cute & perfect!! I rescued him the end of January 2013 at the Mall in Big D!!
“This last year has been challenging & fun. He has made our world! He is such a character & so funny! He is starting agility classes next week and has been chosen to appear in a commercial.
“He spends his winters in Phoenix & his summers in Lake Tahoe! He has the life of Riley!! Here are some pictures of him.”
Even if you have a canine housemate, think about adding another one. What’s the saying? The more’s the merrier. And you know how merry you like to be.
