“I would like to introduce you to our organization, Behind Every Door Ministries. Our ministry serves the needs of over two thousand people-especially children-in two under-served apartment communities here is Dallas. Our mission is to make friends and to make life better by practically serving and blessing the people in our apartment communities. Our hope is that entire neighborhoods and communities will be transformed as a result. We believe there is a story “behind every door” of these complexes and we want to hear those stories.
“Christmas came early to our apartment community in South Oak Cliff, Village Oaks Apartments, when the Texas Real Estate Council’s Young Guns gave us a grant to renovate our gym located on the property. This facility will become a Life Center for over 1300 residents. The Life Center will serve as a multi-purpose facility for men, women, and children that focuses on 5 areas of development: training, fitness, fine arts, work, and events. This renovation of our Life Center is a key component of our vision to build community and to restore dignity for the residents of Village Oaks and the surrounding area.
“Our Wish List is for amenities that will enhance our new facility and allow us to conduct a variety of programs to bring about a personal, as well as, a community transformation.
“Wish List:
- Three large TVs (60-72 inch) to be placed on the three existing back boards in the gym
- Four speakers for each corner of the gym
- Two outdoor speakers
- Wireless microphone
- DVD player
“We believe there is a difference between charity and investment. The charity model stops after meeting basic, surface level needs. We choose to invest in each person we meet, seeking to understand the deeper issues that cause the visible symptoms.
