Sure, they knew the categories in which the judging would take place. But the question still out there was, “Who would the judges be?”
To keep the anticipation high, Mad Hatter’s Co-chairs Shay Geyer and Maggie Kipp held off announcing the lineup for judges until the evening of March 28 at NorthPark’s Roberto Cavalli. Originally, planned for March 27, the girls moved it to the next night because Cavalli Director of Marketing Cristiano Mancini had arranged to fly in for the occasion.
According to Cristiano, the Dallas stores is just one of five in the U.S. and this is the first and only one in Texas. Next year, they’ll open one at the Houston Galleria. The reason? “We love Texas. . . We love the lifestyle and the women and that they embrace fashion and know how to dress up, pay attention to their hair and makeup and jewelry. . .” And while the Cavalli organization has seen a trend recently toward more formal dressing. Perhaps it’s due to the popularity of Downton Abbey. Since Cristiano dresses celebs like Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Sharon Stone and Charlize Theron, he was asked how Texas women measure up to the big stars. “They are red-carpet ready. We like that.”
Alas, it wasn’t easy to get to Cristiano with all the crowd in the store. Jocelyn White wore a 4- to 5-year-old Cavalli flowery pink, orange and yellow blouse with pink slacks. . . .Hat designer Shane Walker wore one of his show-stopping police-caps.
Was he a bit early for the tea party? No. He knew Cathy Vieth was going to wear an over-the-top outfit at the announcement and he wanted to make her feel comfortable. He was right. Cathy maintained her reputation for headturning. In addition to her Cher-like salute outfit, she brought about nearly 6-year-old (her birthday is in June) daughter, Chanel, who quickly handled the paparazzi like a skilled pro.
Oh, so who will be the 2013 judges? Just follow the link and they’re all listed including photos.
And if you missed the gathering and Cavalli clothes, not to worry. You can see them on the Mad Hatter’s runway along with their neighbor Oscar de la Renta.
