Super Bowl weekend, the air is filled with competition. Even the Booker T. Washington art students have been competing. Only instead of being on a football field, they’ve been competing in the field of sculpture. The material was scrap metal and guess who sponsored the annual contest? Dallas-based Commercial Metals.
The finished work is going to be displayed in “Scrap Can Be Beautiful” at Mary Tomás Gallery Saturday, February 2 thru Sunday, February 10. If you want to rub elbows with the artists, you might want to drop by Saturday, February 2. That’s when there will be an open house (noon to 4 p.m.) and/or a student/artist reception from 5 to 8 p.m.
BTW, the show is curated by local art expert/educator Gail Sachson.
