After last week’s tragedy, talking about toys may seem rather superficial. And yet, there are parents who value their children more than ever due to Newtown, but lack enough money to provide their munchkins with gifts. Their money is better spent on such silly things as food, shelter, education and clothing. Toys? Those are luxuries that their children will probably have to do without. When the kids return to school and hear others brag about what they got, the beloved but giftless youngsters will back out of the conversation. A Christmas without a gift is hard to bear for little ones no matter the age. It’s as bad as learning that there is no Santa.
But, wait! You can forestall that reality. How? By supporting a toy drive. Yes, there are tons of them, but here is one that’s taking place Tuesday night and you’ll be able to be with folks who share your sharing attitude.
It’s the YW Holiday Happy Hour. No, it’s not the YMCA. It the gals’ side of the Y operation. It will be held at Komali Restaurant from 6 to 8 p.m. All you have to do is bring “an unwrapped toy to donate to the YW Nurse-Family Partnership program. We need toys for children under two years, such as puzzles, shape sorters, blocks, books, tummy-time toys, musical/sound toys, alphabet/number toys, etc.” The goodies will “benefit the low-income, soon-to-be first-time moms that YW serves.”
