Eyebrows were raised when it was announced that the Dallas Opera would simulcast “Magic Flute” at Cowboys Stadium. After all it was a BIG jump from the lawn outside of the Winspear this past fall to the gargantuan site of the 2011 Super Bowl.
Ah, but that DO guru Keith Cerny realized that joint venturing with the the Jerry Jones clan and offering the entire North Texas area the free opportunity to experience opera was an oh-so-winning combination.
But what else can you expect from a fella who managed to have a recent stealth fundraiser at a humongous palace, where guests didn’t learn of the address until the day before and a tour of the mega-mansion with loads of malachite, mini-concert in the residence’s performance hall and cocktails was a measly $500 pp, while din-din, drinks, concert and cocktails were . . . well, let’s just say a heck of a lot more.
Where was this extravaganza? We’re not telling because the hosts would be very displeased. And don’t even think of bribing or waterboarding DO staff members. Let’s just say the couple has an art collection that art experts crave.
Ah, but back to the Cowboys’ Stadium event on Saturday, April 28. Already 30,500 seats are filled and there are only 1,500 left. Seats and parking are free, our favorite four-letter word.
For those of you who tailgate, WRR will host the official tailgating party starting at 5 p.m in lot 5. Why, oh, why does the vision of a Bentley with burgers on the grill in the trunk seem festive?
