Back in 1977, Texas Stadium was still the new home of the Dallas Cowboys, the designer Halston had been hired to create a new look for Braniff and “The Love Boat” debuted on TV. It was also in October of that year that the Dallas Junior Forum was established to “create a greater interest among women in civic, educational and philanthropic fields in the Dallas areas.”
According to DJF President Julie Sheridan, over the past 35 years the DJF has provided 12,000 volunteer hours and distributed $465,000 in grants to agencies from the Juliette Fowler Homes to the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas. Betcha you didn’t know that DJF has put together 10 cooking teams which “provide 10 meals a month, making DJF the largest provider of meals for families” at RMH.
In addition to Juliette Fowler and RMH, DJF also serves Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, Neighborhood Service Council, Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer, Frisco Family Services and Hope’s Door.
In order to provide such support, they depend largely upon their spring fundraiser. To celebrate its 35th anniversary, DJF is holding a lunch at Union Station with Australian-born/award-winning motivational speaker/acclaimed pianist/author/humorist Theresa Behenna, a silent auction and sorta incredible raffle item. What’s up for grabs? The raffle goodie is “a 10-day accommodation package in Northern Tuscany, Italy! Situated in the midst of a working medieval village, in the foothills of the Apennines, this beautifully restored 13th century home allows up to 6 guests to immerse themselves in true Italian life and experience rooftop terrace views of magnificent sunsets and more.” Been to Tuscany? Then you know.
Jacquie Hammett and Penny Sanders have arranged the whoop-la. If you’re going to be out of town and unable to attend the luncheon with WFAA’s Gloria Campos emceeing, Theresa, lunch by Wolfgang Puck’s group and the raffle, not to worry. You don’t have to be present for the raffle to win, but you’ll be there in spirit.
Oh, but you want the bad news. Shoot! Ticket sales will close down on Thursday, April 12, so hustle to be one of the lucky 400.

What a delight this Saturday morning to see DJF in the columns of My Sweet Charity! Being one of the 135+ members of the DJF sisterhood, working side by side, providing over 12,000 hours of volunteer service, as DJF did last year alone, you form many wonderful friendships. Then, raising and distributing funds to the agencies we serve (nearly half a million between 2004-2011), and seeing the overall positive results of our work in the community, well, it does a heart good. And that is what DJF is all about, “Service from the Heart”. DJF invites those women who may have an interest in joining to check out our website and our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/DallasJuniorForum Thank you, My Sweet Charity, for helping us share the good news about Dallas Junior Forum!
