1995 was a life-changing year for both Shelby and Scott Dabney and The Ticket’s Craig “Junior ” Miller.
It was on September 6th of that year that the Dabneys’ son Clayton Dabney died at the age of six from cancer. His all-too-brief life had been filled with endless tests, procedures, medical exams and healthcare folks who worked tirelessly with Clayton and his family to win the battle. While most kids scream at the very thought of a flu shot, Clayton put up with pain with nary a complaint. In fact, he inspired other to greatness.
Following Clayton’s death, his folks, Shelby and Scott Dabney, family and friends established The Clayton Dabney Foundation for Kids. It wasn’t to grant a last wish or to provide additional healthcare. Rather, while the Dabneys were going through their ordeal, they witnessed other families trying to be with their children every moment right up to the very end. Not only did they realize how vital those days of being together were for the families, they learned how financially and emotionally challenging it was. Thus, the foundation was established to help families be with their terminally ill child.
One of the fundraisers that supports The Clayton Dabney Foundation is “The Dabney — The 16th Annual Fall Golf Outing at The Golf Club of Dallas,” a golf tournament at Las Colinas presented by Looper Reed & McGraw P.C. It takes place this Friday, October 6, and is being chaired by Carter Daniels.
Last Thursday The Dabneys’ sponsor party “An Evening with Craig ‘Junior’ Miller” took place at Bentley of Dallas. With Rolls Royces and guests filling the showroom, Junior told stories about his ultra-popular, morning-drive-radio show, The Dunham & Miller Show – “The Musers” on The Ticket, 1310 AM. A highlight was his stories about Jerry Jones. You do know that Junior is the “Fake Jerry” voice on the show, don’t you?
Oh, you’re wondering why 1995 was “life changing” for Junior? The Dunham & Miller Show debuted that fall.
