With nary a reality star or camera crew in sight, the true Texas-big-rich, beautiful stars (Lisa and Kenny Troutt, Norma Hunt, Faye Briggs, Paige Locke, Doris Jacobs, Tincy and Vance Miller, etc.) chatted and dined by fabulous candlelight and exquisite white floral arrangements by The Garden Gate at a bona-fide, to-die-for country club (Brook Hollow Golf Club).
The reason? Comerica Bank’s Ralph Babb and the Crystal Charity Ball Committee honoring the CCB 2011 Fashion Show and Luncheon Platinum Circle Patrons with a knock-out dinner (Brook Hollow signature salad, filet of beef with wine reduction sauce and trimmings and, of course, the beyond-yummy chocolate soufflé).
Naturally, everyone was dressed to the nine’s, but what else would you expect from this crowd? Tank tops from the Gap? Well, now to think of it, there were some accessories that Neiman’s Shelle Sills and Malcolm Reuben don’t have in inventory. . . like casts. Yes, some of the guests were in various stages of repair from summer surgeries. Janie Condon had still another cast on her arm from her being hit by an SUV back in the spring. (If you’re wondering, the driver was no-billed.) . . . Don Conlon was sporting a black ortho boot from a torn Achilles heel. Wife Robyn admitted that they’re hoping to avoid surgery. . . Hardly anyone noticed that past CCB Fashion Show and Luncheon Honorary Chair Nancy Dedman was also wearing a mini-version of Don’s boot because of surgery. She probably had hers made by Chanel.
But not everyone was in various stages of repair. Others were like schoolchildren doing class reports on “What I Did on My Summer Vacation.”
Gina Betts fessed up that she had spent way too much time out of town for the summer. She took her 10-year old son Jack to London for his first trip to Europe. While there he checked out Oxford, where Gina went to school. Jack knows how to please a gal. Told his mom that the Oxford visit was his favorite. Wonder if they picked up an application for Jack while they were there. After London, Gina braved taking Jack and a couple of his pals (Andrew Griffin and Keller Casey) to Santa Barbara for Michael Jordan’s basketball camp. Jack won for running the length of the court and successfully doing a layup. Andrew was the best at free throws at camp and Keller was one of the camp’s “All Stars.” Gina should clean up in the Mother of the Year competition this year.
D’Andra Simmons and Colin Duchin were accepting congratulations about their Montana engagement. Everyone wanted to see “the ring” and to hear about the 2012 wedding plans.
And speaking of nuptials, Ashley (Tripplehorn) and Ward Hunt were still explaining their surprise wedding at the Mansion. Guests thought they were “just” attending Ashley’s birthday party, and wound up watching the twosome exchange vows. Seems Ashley got the idea of holding the birthday party at the Mansion the night of her co-chairing the TACA Party on the Green.
Just before the meal was served, Ralph congratulated the CCB for its major fundraising fashion show and CCB Chair Connie O’Neill thanked almost everyone especially dinner chair Tanya Foster.
Then nine of the 10 Best Dressed (Tricia Besing, Nancy Carter, Robyn Conlon, Claire Emanuelson, Kim Miller, Pat McEvoy, Pam Perella, Lee Ann White and Ellen Winspear),2011 Hall of Famer
Elaine Agather, Honorary Chair Annette Simmons, CCB Chair Connie and CCB Fashion Show and Luncheon Chair Aileen Pratt headed to the Oak Room for a group photo.
Only one of the 10 was MIA — Nancy Rogers, who was on her way home from Aspen. Not to worry. Dazzling Rogers will be on hand to strut the second-floor runway of downtown Neiman’s Thursday for the really big show.
