Next Saturday would have been Maureen “Little Mo” Connolly Brinker‘s 77th birthday. For those who might not recognize the name, she was a legendary tennis player, wife of the late Norman Brinker and mother of Cindy Brinker Simmons. After dying of cancer at the age of 34, her legend continues not just on the tennis court but also on the street.
What was that?
Next Saturday, in addition to being Little Mo’s b-day and Addison Oktoberfest, Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer will hold the 26th annual Tom Thumb WOKC Run for the Children 5K and Fun Run at Addison Circle. Starting at 8 a.m., the running and walking events will also be joined by a Finish Line Celebration with breakfast, drinks, German beer (for bona fide adults only), awards and entertainment provided by Eddie Coker and Clean Slate.
The first 500 kids to cross the finish line will receive a goody bag with freebies.
WOKC was founded in 1980 by Little Mo’s daughter, Cindy.
In addition to presenting sponsor Tom Thumb, other sponsors include the Town of Addison, Amici Mutual Insurance, Metro PCS, Buck Consultants, State Bank & Trust, Samsung Mobile, Neighborhood Credit Union, Dallas Junior Forum and Interstate Batteries.
