2017 Callier Cares Luncheon Chair Emilynn Wilson Is Presented With The Former Chair Bracelet

The makeup from Halloween’s haunting had hardly been scrubbed off than news of 2017’s final fundraising push as underway. Over at the Dallas Country Club Founder’s Room, the Callier Center’s Callier Care Luncheon leadership was doing double duty at noon on Wednesday, November 1.

Sissy Cullum, Betsy Cullum and Libby Hunt

Launched last year, the past luncheon chairs come together to present the recent chair with a bracelet. This year past luncheon chairs Libby Hunt (2012),  Barbara Stuart (2013), Betsy Cullum and Sissy Cullum (2014) and  Angie Kadesky (2016), Callier Center Foundation Chair John Stuart and Callier Center for Communications Disorders Dr. Tom Campbell and Jennifer Fowler were on hand to present 2017 Callier Cares Luncheon Chair Emilynn Wilson with the Tiffany sack containing her new trinket.

The gathering was also the official handing over of the baton to 2018 Callier Cares Luncheon Chair Beth Thoele fresh from her chairing the Equest Luncheon and Style Show in October.

Joining Beth for the Callier Center for Communications Disorders fundraiser on Tuesday, April 17, at the Dallas Country Club will be Honorary Co-Chairs Joyce and Larry Lacerte. Receiving the Ruth and Ken Altshuler Callier Care Award will be The Meadows Foundation.

As for Emilynn, she’s still recovering from the record-breaker fundraiser and a nasty cough, as well as preparing to chair The Wilkinson Center’s Can Do Luncheon on Monday, May 7, at Dallas Country Club.

Les Femmes Du Monde Party At Joyce And Larry Lacertes Even Got Co-Honoree Couple Of The Year Herbert Hunt Smiling

As the 70+ guests gathered at Joyce and Larry Lacerte’s Highland home for the Les Femmes du Monde Couple Of The Year Awards Dinner, Dinner Chair Mary Lee Cox said it was just a celebration. There would be no talking. Really?

Then she pointed to the 2016 Les Femmes honorees (aka first-ever Couple of the Year) — Nancy and Herbert Hunt. It was hard to spot them, though. They were engulfed by well-wishers like Sara and David Martineau, Billie Leigh Rippey, Venise Stuart, Sharon Ballew, beneficiaries World Affairs Council’s Jim Falk and Children’s Medical Center Foundation’s Brent Christopher, who admitted that shifting gears from Communities Foundation of Texas to Children’s Medical Center Foundation had been easier that he had expected. Why he had even had time to catch a movie — “Sully.”

For a photo opp, the responsibility was handed over to daughters Barbara Hunt Crow and Libby Hunt Allred. As the photos were snapped, one of the daughters encouraged, “Come on, Dad. Big smile.” Herbert laughed, “I am.”

When asked how long the Hunts had been married, Barbara popped up, “Well, I’m 62.” Nancy laughed, “I married young.”

In the Lacertes’ great room, while Papa Larry Lacerte chatted with guests, Caroline Rose Hunt (aka Herbert’s kid sister) smiled alongside Bob Brackbill. When someone described her having a cute smile, Bob said, “She’s always cute.”

Just minutes into the event, word was passed that Mary Lee had indeed had a change of mind. At 7:15, there would be a brief presentation recognizing Nancy and Herbert and thanking the Lacertes and various people who were making the dinner on Tuesday, October 25, at the Dallas Country Club possible. Ah, so that’s what the bouquet of flowers on the bench next to the fireplace was doing there.

Touch of trivia: In addition to being the 2013 honoree and serving as Les Femmes president in 1995, Mary Lee chaired the 1988 fundraiser when Barbara Bush was the keynote speaker and Caroline Rose Hunt was the honoree.

2016 Former Crystal Charity Ball Chairmen Dinner Was Held In Area’s Most Elegant Storm-Worthy Shelter

By Tuesday, May 10, tornado warnings seemed to have become routine. Still, with clouds looking like street gangs ready to rumble, locals were still heeding the words of weather guessers that North Texas should be prepared for another round of flooding, hail, wind and locusts. Okay, so maybe not the locusts, but everything else.

Luckily for the annual Crystal Charity Ball Former Chairmen dinner, 2016 CCB Chair Christie Carter and her team had picked the perfect spot for the seated supper underwritten by Bank of America, U. S. Trust Private Wealth Management, Merrill Lynch: Joyce and Larry Lacerte’s estate.IMG_5859 Joyce Lacerte, Tucker Enthoven, Angie Kadesky and Caren Kline

When one guest inquired about possible tornadoes, hostess Joyce promptly replied, “We have a full basement and can just move the party downstairs.”

In addition to having the most palatial “storm shelter” in these surroundings, if guests like Barbara Varel (1970), Joyce Mitchell (1988), Sally Berry (1990), Sara Martineau (1993), Barbara Stuart (1994), Randi Halsell (1996), Tincy Miller (1997), Becky Bright (1999), Karen Shuford (2000), Nancy Chapman (2001), Lydia Novakov (2002), Margo Goodwin (2004), Jill Smith (2005), Debbie Snell (2006), Vicki Chapman (2007), Gloria Martindale (2008), Debbie Oates (2009), Cynthia Mitchell (2010), Aileen Pratt (2012),   Robyn Conlon (2014), Caren Kline (2013) and Michal Powell (2015) and and their husbands/dates were forced to hunker downstairs, Cassandra Fine Catering team plus Lacerte house manager Roxann Vyazmensky could easily have moved the feast from the elegant tables set up in the Lacerte’s great room on the ground level downstairs. Talk about glorious MREs — baby greens salad, pan seared beef tenderloin with lobster risotto and orange custard for dessert.

But luckily the need to “seek shelter” didn’t take place and all went according to plan with Bank of America Dallas Market President Richard Holt and his blonde wife Kathy Holt greeting the 22 former chairs, who have helped lead the 64-year-old organization to provide more than $123M for Dallas area children’s charities.

Despite all types of threatening weather, the veteran Crystal Charity Ball chairmen got together for their annual dinner on Tuesday, May 10. Luckily, it was at Joyce and Larry Lacerte’s home and if a tornado was to hit, there would be no better place to be.
