Jonika Nix and Katy Bock

Drivers in a hurry to drive down Beverly Drive Friday evening were in for a reality check. It was going to be a slo-mo journey.

The reason was the 45th Cattle Baron’s Ball Reveal party at Ruth Ruhl’s mansion. The number of cars trying to deliver guests became so large that it seemed that the Jack Boles valets were going to have to park the cars in University Park.

The big news of the night had the 300+ guests whooping and hollering when 2018 CBB Co-Chairs Katy Bock and Jonika Nix announced that the theme would be “Sapphires And Spurs,” with the blonde co-chairs and their committee of 100 women heading back to Gilley’s.

MySweetWishList: 2018 Cattle Baron’s Ball

According to 2018 Cattle Baron’s Co-Chairs Katy Bock and Jonika Nix,

Jonika Nix and Katy Bock“Cattle Baron’s has raised more than $75 million for cancer research projects in North Texas since its inception 45 years ago.  We plan to reveal our plans for continuing this important battle in early February and our wish is that the community will join us in our goal to eradicate cancer by becoming underwriters of this 2018 Cattle Baron’s Ball.

“The first Cattle Baron’s Ball was as a full-fledged Texas barbecue under the chairmanship of Patti Hunt and Jacque Wynne.  The event was a sellout with more than 500 guests attending the western theme party at Toddie Lee Wynne’s Star Brand Ranch.  Through ticket sales and an auction, the Park Cities Branch of the American Cancer Society raised $56,000.

“Decades later, more than 100,000 guests have been entertained at the annual event which has become the world’s largest single event fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The Cattle Baron’s Ball Committee and the American Cancer Society have expanded the ball’s purpose to include a myriad of services that provide services for cancer patients and their families.

“We hope you will join us by becoming an underwriter of the 2018 Cattle Baron’s Ball. Visit www.cattlebaronsball.com.”

2018 Cattle Ball Baron’s Kicks Off The Year Of Fundraising For Cancer Research And Treatment With Legs And Hope At McKinney’s Truluck’s

It was a changing of guards, or rather chairs for Cattle Baron’s Ball on Thursday, November 16, at Truluck’s. Just ten days earlier the CBB newbies had had their orientation cocktail party across the street at ZaZa’s Art House and Social Gallery.

As the valets were swamped by the Range Rovers, Mercedes and Bentleys, the ladies who are as comfortable in stilettos as Saint Laurent over-the-knee boots arrived en masse for the fall luncheon .

Inside 2017 CBB Co-Chair Anne Stodghill was reporting on her after-life following the Saturday, October 21, fundraiser at Gilley’s. Seems she’s taken up jewelry designing and preparing for the holidays.

A few minutes later 2017 CBB Co-Chair Sunie Solomon arrived in the valet line. But before leaving her car, she had to get something. Inside her purse was her daughter’s lunch for drop off.

While Anne and Sunie scooted upstairs for a sneak peek photo with the mega check that would be presented to the American Cancer Society during the lunch, 2018 CBB Co-Chairs Katy Bock and Jonika Nix were welcoming the overflow crowd and preparing to kick off the year-long journey in fundraising for cancer research and treatments.

Thanks to Truluck’s special events coordinator Rebecca Wright and CBB committee members Amanda Shufeldt, Paige Westhoff, Megan Flanagan and Samantha Wortley, the group including Nancy Gopez, Kristi Bare and Lee McDonald, eventually took their places in the party room for a lunch of delicious meal including a Sonoma greens salad, an entrée (choice of beef tenderloin filet, simply prepared salmon and linguini primavera) and a Truluck’s signature variety platters of desserts.

In addition to the official reveal of the $4M check, CBB Deidre Bacala told the group of the various opportunities available for CBB members regarding Hope Lodge and the other opportunities for people to support Cattle Barons.

Less than a month ago, weather threatened to put a real damper on the year-long work of the Cattle Baron’s Ball committee led by Sunie Solomon and Anne Stodghill. But the CBBers stood their ground at Gilley’s on Saturday, October 21, and Mother Nature held back until the last guests partied on home. The fundraising was deemed a major party success.

Today at the CBB fall luncheon at Truluck’s, Anne and Sunie revealed the results of their team’s efforts. It was a whopping, holy mackerel $4M to support cancer research and treatments.

That’s not the gross, not the amount raised! It is the bottom-line net.

Now, 2018 CCB Co-Chairs Katy Bock and Jonika Nix pick up and carry on the fundraising for the 45-year-old organization. First on their must-do-list is the announcement of the 2018 theme. That is scheduled to happen after the holidays. Stay tuned.
