Kate And Eric Sudol Bring The Third Annual Collin County Heart Ball To The New Omni Frisco Hotel At The Star For Grazing, Auction And Dancing

Eric Sudol has no need for GPS to find his way to the Dallas Cowboys Star Complex in Frisco. As the Dallas Cowboys’ VP of Corporate Partnership Sales and Services, he‘s an old hand for the 91-acre campus that includes the Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters, an indoor practice field, restaurants, offices and the brand new Omni Frisco Hotel.

So, when Eric and his wife, Kate Sudol, took over the chair duties for the 2017 Collin County Heart Ball, they knew just the place to hold it. As a matter of fact, the Saturday, November 4, fundraiser for the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association will be one of the very first galas at the hotel.

According to Kate, “The Collin County Heart Ball is unique in that you come to one gala and actually experience several of the finest restaurants in the Metroplex at one time. In addition to the spectacular food (Omni Frisco Hotel Executive Chef) creates, Tre Wilcox Cooking Concepts and Jasper’s Gourmet Backyard Cuisine are among the eateries that will have tasting stations.”

Beside grazing around, guests will also be able to bid on such things as trips to Telluride and Bimini and dance the night away.

But Eric stressed that the real draw of the night is the cause, saying, “It’s a premier event that is always a lot of fun, but there’s a bigger reason to get involved. The Association is set on improving the cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent. They want to do all this by 2020. We’re honored to be part of what is sure to be a historic milestone.”

DFW Restaurant Week’s Food And Wine Night Celebrated The Kick Off Of the 20th Annual Fundraiser With Cadillacs, Grazing And Sunshine

Heat and sunshine didn’t dissuade folks from attending the DFW Restaurant Week’s Food and Wine Night party on Thursday, August 3. Taking over the entire One Arts Plaza driveway, food stations were set up along the sides with a stage at the far end facing the mega high rise.

Cadillac owners were pleased to find out that they were due free valet parking courtesy of Restaurant Week Co-Sponsor Dallas-area Cadillac dealers. Only problem arose when the valets couldn’t tell a Cadillac from the other makes.

Then there was trying to get into the party. It required IDs’s and tickets to receive the required wristbands. Some guests though the bracelet translated into free grazing only to find out that all was not gratis. One gal had a mini-sticker shock when she discovered that her adult beverage had a price tag. Oops!

As the sun set, the crowds sought the shady side of the driveway or headed into the air-conditioned lobby. Luckily, as the sun set, guests found conditions more user friendly. Still those fountains the center sure did look inviting. But so did the food and those spiffy Cadillacs on display.

Dick Collins sat in his den checking his cellphone with his longtime friend Dale Robinowitz, as the entry of his Bluffview mansion filled to capacity with guests on Thursday, June 22. Just proved that everyone hadn’t evacuated the North Texas heat.

But then, what would you expect when Dick’s blonde daughter Calvert Collins-Bratton and her husband Vince Bratton put out the shout for the Children at Risk North Texas Chapter‘s kick-off party for A Night in Barcelona, which is slated for Saturday, September 23, at Hotel ZaZa?

Standing on the winding stairway, Children at Risk North Texas Managing Director Dr. Charlotte Carlisle welcomed the crowd, including Calvert’s mom Susan Collins, Children at Risk North Texas Chairman of the Board Stratton Horres and his wife Debbie Horres, Maddy Kulkarni, Lee Papert, Angela Nash, Ron Taylor and Timmy Newsome.

Children at Risk COO Dr. Katie McConnell told of her days working in the public school system when she encountered children like Umberto, who was facing challenges each day while his mom worked three jobs. It was organizations like Children at Risk that offered programs to assist Umberto.

Charlotte then told about two major problems that Children at Risk deal with:

  1. Food deserts where there are areas in which children don’t have access to food beyond junk food
  2. Human trafficking — “85-90% of reported child-sex trafficking cases occur to children, who were born in the United States”

After Charlotte handed the program over to Calvert, who described the evening’s festivities, including a raffle for a five-night stay at 5-star Monument Hotel In Barcelona with air fare for two, flamenco dancers, a sangria bar and tapas and a live auction that will include a package to the NBA All-Star game in Los Angeles. VIP ticketholders will attend a pre-party poolside before joining the rest of the guests in the Uptown Ballroom.

The Conner Gals And Julie Bagley Will Bring The Inner Child Out For Dallas Afterschool’s Annual Recess At The Dallas Arboretum In March

Even in the oldest codger, there is a kid just looking for an excuse to get out. Sure, doing a cartwheel may be out of the game plan, but there are other activities that are just too good to resist. And those activities and food groups will be part of 2017 Recess according to Event Co-Chairs Anne Conner and her daughter-in-law Ryan Conner, who will be joined by Honorary Chair /former Co-Chair/Recess Co-Founder Julie Bagley.

The trio has arranged to have the Dallas After School fundraiser at the Dallas Arboretum’s Rosine Hall on Friday, March 23. If you’ve ever been to Recess, the you just know it will be a total kid event for big kids with a night of music, games, food, and adult juice boxes. And even the most gelled nails will be digging in Recess Sandbox for prizes galore.

The Weather Played Nice For La Fiesta De Las Seis Banderas’ “Under The Stars” To Be Out In The Open At Gwen And Doug Parker’s Casa

When La Fiesta de Las Seis Banderas organizers woke up to raindrops on their roofs, lightning in the air and thunder overhead, it didn’t bode well for their “Under The Stars” event on Friday, June 9. Sure, Gwen and Doug Parker’s 12,000-square-foot Park Cities home could handle the expected 300 Duchesses, escorts, parents, and underwriters. But they had so hoped for a true night under the stars.

Evidently, the evening’s Co-Chairs Megan Saustad and Pam Stegenga had pull. By early afternoon, not only had the stormy weather gone elsewhere, but the temperatures became so downright friendly that one gal with bare shoulders thought out loud, “It might get chilly.”

As event photographer James French snapped photos out front, the highlights inside the home and in the backyard were:

  • The Parkers’ turf ground-covering validated Gwen’s decision to have it installed, instead of the need-be-mowed green stuff. Despite the rains earlier in the day, the big backyard with tables and chairs was dry and stiletto-friendly.
  • A string trio—two violins and a cello—were playing softly in the entryway.

  • Elizabeth Cooper and Clare Obenchain admitted that their so-perfect tans were the real thing and not the spray-on variety.

    In taking an accounting of high school roots, Robert Farrow was from Cambridge School, Anna Buford was a Hockadaisie and Harrison Buford and Claire Green were Highland Park Scots.

  • The food on the dining-room table reflected the French theme, thanks to Sonoma chicken salad croissants, macaronis au fromage, steak au poivre crostini and spinach and mushroom quiche.
  • Doug Parker, who’s chairman and CEO of American Airlines Group, didn’t make it. He was out of town on business. Boo-hooed one attendee: “I’m sad Doug’s not gonna be here!” Parker’s presence was still felt, though: on the fireplace mantel in one cozy, white-plaster-walled room, there was a black-and-white plaque that read, “Behind Every Good Kid Is A Great Dad.”
  • Gwen Parker, looking around the house, said they were almost empty-nesters. Despite son Luke Parker in from New York University to be a La Fiesta escort and son Jackson Parker in from Nashville to watch his brother, the Parker household was down to daughter, Eliza Parker, still living in the nest while attending Hockaday.
  • Also in keeping with La Fiesta’s French theme, the servers wore red neckerchiefs and berets.

It was an early evening, though, because the big gala at The Fairmont was the next night, and a crowd of 900—believed to be the biggest ever—was expected to show up. Funds from the summer extravaganza will benefit C.A.R.E., Connecting Points of Park Cities, The Elisa Project, The Family Place, Friends of University Park Library, Highland Park Education Foundation, Highland Park Literary Festival, HP Arts, HPHS Community Service Council, HPHS Counseling Department and Student Council, HPHS Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter, HPHS Science Festival, HPHS Student Emergency Fund, HPHS Youth and Government/Moody Family YMCA and Park Cities Heritage House at Dallas Heritage Village.

The Klyde Warren Park team has really been cooking up some plans for this year’s Park and Palate at Klyde Warren Park on Friday, October 13, and Saturday, October 14. Yes, yes, that’s Texas-OU weekend, but what a great place to eat, drink and party with locals and out-of-towners. Now settle back for the news.

This year’s theme is “Pillars and Protégés,” and for good reason. The “pillars” will be established vets in the culinary centers cooking up dishes with “a partner (aka protégé) who will collaborate with them at the event to create a truly diverse lineup.”

JUST IN: Tracy Rathbun’s Husband Will Celebrate His 20th Anniversary Heading Up The March Of Dimes Dallas Signature Chefs Auction

When the March of Dimes Dallas Signature Chefs Auction was just three years old back in 1997, there was young fellow who was making a name for himself in these parts. In addition to his day job of cooking in area restaurants, he offered to take the lead for the fundraiser.

Back then he was known as Kent Rathbun, but due to a legal quagmire he’s known nowadays as restaurateur “Tracy Rathbun’s husband.”  

But the namelessness hasn’t stopped his support, involvement and leadership in the March of Dimes Dallas’ “premiere fundraising gala,” that will take place on Thursday, November 2, at the Omni Dallas Hotel.

To celebrate his 20th anniversary as Lead Chef of Dallas Signature Chefs, Mr. Rathbun has once again assembled some of the top and most generous chefs to provide chef samplings, as well as a live auction “featuring unique dining experiences.”

JUST IN: Mary McDermott Cook To Take A Second Bow As Honorary Chair For 2017 Zoo To Do’s “Animal Gathering”

Animal-loving philanthropist Mary McDermott Cook had so much fund fundraising as last year’s Zoo To Do‘s honorary chair that she’s signed up for a second year.

In fact, quite a few of the 2016 Zoo To Do crew is making a return trip to raise money for the Dallas Zoo including 2017 Co-Chair Barbara Daseke and 2017 Live Auction Co-Chair Hal Brierley

This year’s event at the zoo will take place of Saturday, November 4, with the theme “Animal Gathering.”

They’ve got their work cut out for them. Last year’s event raised $1.4M and since then there’s been the addition of a couple of hungry and adorable hippos.

It should be a howling success since there will be a full moon out that night. 

TACA Lexus Party On The Green Felt Right At Home In Its New Sammons Park Setting With Performers, Ice Carvings And Chefs Galore

Like a family realizing that perhaps they need to expand their residence, TACA organizers had determined that, as part of its year-long, 50th anniversary celebration, the annual  TACA Lexus Party On The Green needed a change. So, after years at the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, they moved the outdoor fundraiser to Sammons Park in the AT&T Performing Arts District on Friday, May 12. It was nothing against the Mansion. After all, they were going to have the 50th Anniversary Gala at the Mansion on Friday, September 8.

With both the Artscape Award and Auction Dinner at the Arboretum and the Party On The Green taking place outdoors on the same night, Mother Nature was in a kindly state of mind and provided spectacular weather.

POG Co-Chairs Katherine Wynne and Tia Wynne had orchestrated a beautiful setting with a backdrop of the very green grass shaded by grown-up trees. Giant lit white balloons hovered over each of the tented chef’s stations. Tabletops were gowned in TACA green and chairs wrapped with pashminas (some salmon-colored, others turquoise, still others emerald-green). An artist with a power saw sprayed ice chips as he carved “50” into two massive blocks of ice on a mini-stage. A ginormous lit balloon with Lexus TACA Party On the Green floated on the reflecting pool. Adirondack chairs were perfectly positioned on the lawn, with flawless views of the action in the pool.

Of course, like any move to new surroundings, there were the expected “oops.” For instance, the PA seemed at times loud enough to be heard in Deep Ellum. Pleasant conversations required ramping up the vocal chords to compete with the myriad of announcements and actors and musicians.

At times, there seemed to be an overly aggressive push for the performing arts. While the dance in the pond was indeed captivating, the theatrical production on stage with Booker T. Washington as a backdrop was a smash … for those within eyesight. For those grazing near the Meyerson, it was a jumble of verbal clutter, just as it was at the last Silver Cup Luncheon.

Snapshots of the scene included Mark Edgar giving a thumb’s-up for Chelsea Corner Chef Sara Griffin’s Road House Burger with truffle fries, which was getting a major top rating from many. Sara’s secret? She uses three types of meat… Rosewood Mansion’s Chef Nicolas Blouin‘s chocolate bar was a confectionary feast for the eyes and taste buds. Earlier in the day, Nicolas had been the one bright spot in a not-so-favorable review of the Mansion by the Dallas Morning News foodie Leslie Brenner…. Parigi Chef Janice Provost on her first outing at the POG decked out her tent with roses and cups set in faux grass filled with savory basil panna cotta with baby tomatoes and pesto… Sissy’s Chef Lisa Garza-Selcer was a bit frazzled during the VIP party, due to her late arrival.
