Not Even A Rainy-Day Delay Could Put The Whoa For The Equesters Galloping Ahead From Their “Field Of Dreams” Gala

One thing is for sure. Those horse-loving Equest folks are flexible. When radar showed threatening weather storming into North Texas for Saturday, April 29th’s Equest Gala at Texas Horse Park, cool minds ruled, coordinated with vendors, sponsors, guests and the ponies and moved the whole kit-and-kaboodle to the next day. Here’s a report from the “field of dreams:”

Kelly Howard, Blair Dwyer and Elizabeth Schwartz*

Ray Johnston*

The Equest Gala, themed “A Field of Dreams,” was truly an inspirational evening of hope, determination and joy. With Saturday’s forecast of severe storms, a difficult decision was made to reschedule the gala to Sunday, and the Equest team, Gala committee, and event planner Katy Sky Group produced the unthinkable: a beautiful fundraising gala for 450 guests complete with all the bells and whistles. The 36th annual Equest Gala was another example of Equest’s can-do spirit.

Jocelyn White and Jody Dean*

Finely dressed in their equestrian best, guests perused the magnificently decorated Equest barns and arena at Texas Horse Park. Ray Johnston performed an acoustic set during the reception – providing the perfect soundtrack to the blue skies and cool temperature. Sipping on signature “Field of Dreams” margaritas and sampling the Bourbon and Biscuits Bar, guests cozied up with the lipstick-wearing Equest Mini-Ambassadors Cisco and Dare at the Mini Kissing Booth. Just as festive was the Tequila with Taco station where delighted guests enjoyed Milagro tequila and a photo with Equest’s famous donkey, Taco.  One of the best parts of the night was seeing the proud smiles worn by the Equest riders during Horse and Rider demonstrations.

Andy Steingasser*

Guests enjoyed a family-style southern gourmet dinner from Farm to Market Catering, while Emcees Jocelyn White of Designing Texas and Jody Dean of KLUV 98.7 FM introduced Equest CEO Lili Kellogg, Equest Chairman of the Board Andy Steingasser, and Equest Gala Co-Chairs Kathy and Jeromy Fielder, among others.

Cary Pierce*

A compelling video touched charitable hearts before the start of the live auction. Over $50,000 was raised during the fund-a-mission and five Equest therapy horses were sponsored by generous donors. Other guests bid on stellar live auction items including a four-night vacation in Breckenridge, a Napa Valley Getaway, a live painting by Dace Lucia Kidd, and a Belize Dream at the Las Terrazas Resort. Guests also had the opportunity to bid on one-of-a-kind silent auction items, and purchase a key for $100 that the lucky winner could use to unlock a $2,500 Neiman Marcus gift card.

An equestrian chic gala – especially one located in a barn – would not be considered a success without two-stepping. Dancers from Arthur Murray Dance Studio opened the dance floor, quickly followed by guests’ cowboy boots shuffling to the musical lead of Cary Pierce, and surprise musical guests Crystal Yates and Jon Christopher Davis.

Phyllis Comu and Susan Schwartz*

Darin and Margot Ruebel*

Additional attendees included: Equest Co-Founder Susan Schwartz, Bill and Lezlie Noble, Monique and Reed Williams, Margot and Darin Ruebel, Phyllis and CJ Comu, Phyllis Glazer, Bridget and Tom Black, Jessica and Michael Barnett, Ricky Callahan and Jennie Healy, Connie Sigel, Mimi and Rich Sterling, Patrick and Kristy Sands, Carolyn and Romy Anderson, and Alanna Smith of WFAA Good Morning Texas, among others.

JUST IN: Equest Gala Moved To Sunday

Equest Gala change of plans*

With all the threats of Saturday night’s stormy weather ramping up, area organizers are kicking in back-up plans. Word just arrived that the Equest Gala at Texas Horse Park has been postponed 24 hours to Sunday. Here is the official word from the horse’s mouth:

Due to weather beyond our control, we have made the decision to postpone the Equest 2017 Field of Dreams Gala to Sunday, April 30. The new Gala start time is 5 p.m. with shuttles running from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and returning at 7:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The reason is simple — safety for two- and four-legged critters. Very good move on Equest Gala Co-Chairs Kathy and Jeromy Fielder‘s part.

Just think. If you weren’t able to attend the original Saturday night, you’re in luck to see the horses Sunday and can make it happen by checking in here. On the other hand, if you can’t make it Sunday night, why not show your Equest support and consider your ticket purchase as a donation and let Amanda Fastle know, so they can adjust plans. However, if the household budget is tight and you really need that money, then check with Christine Volkmer about a refund.

Family Compass’ 2016 “A Legendary Evening” Is Postponed Until 2017

On the heels of the Park Cities Historical and Preservation Society’s change of plans announcement, another one was pointed out. No, it has nothing to do with PCHPS. It’s the Family Compass’ annual A Legendary Evening that was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 9, is going to take the year off.

According to Family Compass Board Member Whitney Strauss, “We are working on big plans to make it spectacular!”

But not to worry. There are plenty of other things going on that night like the WaterTower Celebrate Gala, the Aware Affair Celebrate the Moments, No Tie Dinner and Dessert, A Little Night Music and the Mosaic’s 19th Annual Heart and Soul Gala.

JUST IN: Park Cities Historical And Preservation Society Postpones 5th Annual Distinguished Speaker Luncheon To May 19

There’s been a slight change of plans in the Park Cities. It’s the Park Cities Historical and Preservation Society. Originally, the organization was scheduled to have its 5th Annual Park Cities Historical and Preservation Distinguished Speaker Luncheon on Wednesday, March 30, at the Dallas Country Club.

Word just arrived that the lunch being chaired by the Jacobs gals (mama Doris Jacobs and daughters Kim Jacobs Calloway and Teffy Jacobs) has been moved to Thursday, May 19. It will still be at the DCC.

And there is no change of date for the PCHPS’s Saturday, April 2nd Classic and Antique Car Show or the 14th Annual Historic Home Tour on Saturday, April 9.

Classic car*

BTW, the car show at Burleson Park is being chaired by Dan McKeithen. It will include a treasure trove of vehicles, among them vehicles from the Sam Pack Automotive Museum, including “Fords from the earliest models off the assembly line through the war years, into the best of the muscle cars years and including current day models.”

Another traffic stopper will be “vehicles from the deBoulle Motorsports Collections.”

JUST IN: 2015 Stiletto Strut Is Postponed

If you had the Stiletto Strut marked down on your calendar, get out the white out.  Just received word that Neiman Marcus Downtown and Community Partners of Dallas have decided to postpone it until fall 2016. Here’s the word just received from CPD:

Stiletto Strut (File photo)

Stiletto Strut (File photo)

Hold your heels! Due to multiple circumstances, the 2015 Stiletto Strut, scheduled for October 15, has been postponed. We are so grateful to our chairs, honorary chairs, host committee members and sponsors for their continued support, and we look forward to sharing more information as soon as it is available.

Neiman Marcus and CPD are committed to making the event the best in 2016 so keep your stilettos polished and be ready to strut to support the abused and neglected children of Dallas County!

One can’t help but suspect that you’ll be able to find something to do Thursday, October 15. Besides the new date means you’ll have a new excuse to buy a new pair of heels.

JUST IN: Dallas Zoo’s Safari Night Concert Series Opener Postponed, But You Can Still Party For Animals

Safari Nights*

Safari Nights*

If you had plans to attend the first of the Dallas Zoo‘s Safari Night summer concert series tomorrow night (Saturday), unplan it. The good folks at the zoo just announced that  “the record rainfall and last night’s storms have saturated Cat Green, where the outdoor concert series is held.

“With the potential for more storms in the forecast and the safety of guests, animals and staff a priority, the zoo will reschedule Petty Theft (Tom Petty tribute band) and The Bird Dogs to a later date.”

Zoo Spokes-animal Lydia Jennings has requested, “Whoever is doing all the rain dancing needs to stop!”

Top Hat & Tails**

Now, if you’re an animal lover and really wanted to party with music Saturday night, you might want to get reservations for Paws In The City‘s “Top Hat and Tails,” at the Westin Galleria where Morgan Fairchild will be honorary chair.

Postponement: Artscape Members-Only Preview

Due to the threatening weather, tonight’s members-only preview of Artscape benefiting the Dallas Arboretum is postponed until tomorrow (Saturday) morning from 7 to 9 a.m.

Smart thinking. The weather should be great and mimosas and “breakfast goodies” will be on hand along with the flowers.

Don’t think about crashing the party. Membership cards will be required for entry.

POSTPONEMENT: Elaine Turner Grand Opening

If you were going to hitch up their huskies to your sled for a trek tomorrow (Thursday) to the grand opening of Elaine Turner in Frisco, tell them to sleep in. The Heroes and Children fundraiser has been postponed for 24 hours.

Here’s the message that came in:

“Out of respect for the safety of our Elaine Turner family and guests we are postponing our Grand Opening Celebration Brunch to FRIDAY 3/6 instead of tomorrow due to the Dallas weather forecast. Same time (11am-1pm), same place (The Shops at Legacy)”

POSTPONEMENT: Ronald McDonald House Of Dallas’ Under The Moonlight Sponsor Party

With wet, icy weather comes postponements. One of the first to hit the email-box is the sponsor party for Ronald McDonald House of DallasUnder the Moonlight fundraiser. The new date is Wednesday, April 15.

That’s good news. Because that gives you have more time to sign up to be a sponsor for the Saturday, March 21st Under the Moonlight seated dinner by Chef Sharon Van Meter at Trinity Groves. There will be dancing to Latin jazz techno music by The Phonophreaks and a live auction.

Whoa! The postponement of the sponsors party is now gonna be held after the major fundraiser co-chaired by Cate Ford and Lauren Swann. Why not? Consider it to be private after-party to celebrate the big event by the big supporters.

POSTPONEMENT: Boots And Horses

Wednesday’s activities are shifting with the winter weather possibly unloading. The Trinity Trust River Rats and Pack Rats have decided to once again postpone their sneak preview of Texas Horse Park. Hey, who wants to see an outdoor venue in sleety conditions?

Boots and Horses is now scheduled for Tuesday, March 10.

Yeah, it’s gonna fall during spring break, but shoot! Most of the “rats” don’t have kiddos, so spring break doesn’t jangle their calendars.

And besides with everyone with munchkins evacuating the city, it’ll be nice to hang out with the ponies and rats.

JUST IN: “Kinky Boots” Master Class Postponed

Those planning on attending Saturday’s “Kinky Boots” Master Class at Colleyville Heritage High School can chill, literally. Because of the iffy weather, the class has been scheduled to Saturday, March 7, from 9 to noon. The location of the class has yet to be determined.

There may still be some openings, if you want to sign up for the class. It costs $25 to be “kinky.”

JUST IN: Dallas Women’s Foundation #BESTSELF Postponed

Dallas Women's Foundation*

Dallas Women’s Foundation*

Just heard from Dallas Women’s Foundation‘s Kristyn Senters that the sold-out #BESTSELF event scheduled for Saturday has been postponed.

Kristyn added, “We will be in touch with reschedule event details soon! Safe warm and safe!”

JUST IN: Cowtown Marathon Cancels Some Activities And Delays Others

Fort Worth always seems to get the bad weather first. And that’s what happened earlier this morning.

Due to the conditions predicted to only get worse over night, Saturday’s Cowtown Marathon has been canceled and Sunday’s race has been delayed.

Postponed: Boots & Horses

Snow is in the forecast early tomorrow morning resulting in muddy conditions in the afternoon and evening. Because organizers of the “Boots & Horses” want everything to be perfect for a sneak peek of the new Texas Horse Park, they’ve decided to postponed Wednesday night’s festivities. The event is for The Trinity Trust River Rats and Rat Pack members and potential members.

The new date is Wednesday, March 4. That’s good news. Because if you aren’t a member, you have time to join up and feel right at home among the “rats” and the “nags.”

JUST IN: Tonight’s “A Symphony Of Chefs” Postponed

Checked with the folks over at KidsLink Foundation about tonight’s A Symphony Of Chefs fundraiser at the Hilton Anatole. Here is the news:

“Sadly, we’ve had to postpone because of the weather. We expect to have a reschedule date in the next few days.”

Translation: The organizers recognize that despite the icy conditions, KidsLink supporters might try to make it to the event. They don’t want to be responsible for any possible problems, so they’re simply moving the five-course, dine-athon to a date that will be convenient for the chefs, the hotel and the rest of the world.

Remember, this event is not canceled. It is simply postponed. So, stay tuned for the new date.

Postponement: Cattle Baron’s Spring Luncheon

The Cattle Baron’s Spring luncheon organizers thought ahead. Instead of having the annual event on Monday, February 23, they’ve decided to move it to Thursday, February 26, due to the fact that Monday’s temps supposedly will not rise above 32 degrees.

Let’s face it. Chattering teeth have never been fashionable or fundraisable friendly.

So, chill at home with the kids and let your adorable outfits sit warmly in the closet. Thursday will be much more user friendly.

On the other hand, cancer doesn’t recognize bad weather or any human problems. That’s why research and treatments are ongoing regardless of the conditions.

Tate Lecture Series Organizers Announce The Postponement Of “Good Morning America’s” Robin Roberts’ Appearance Tonight

Due to the blizzard-thon in the northeast, “Good Morning America’s” Robin Roberts appearance at tonight’s Tate Lecture Series has been postponed. So hold on to your tickets because they’ll be good for the future date that’s being negotiated.

In the meantime, enjoy the nice weather here!

Just In: If You Were Planning On Attending Hollywood Dominos Dallas Saturday With Johnny Depp’s Main Squeeze, Scratch That Plan

If you were picking out your cutest frock for Saturday night’s Hollywood Dominos with Amber Heard at FIG, put the dress back on the rack. Seems Johnny Depp’s fiancée has had a conflict of scheduling for the Texas Scottish Rite/The Art of Elysium fundraiser. Organizers say, “Yeah, the fundraiser is still on…just not Saturday.”

That’s as awkward as being the only guest to show up for a bridal shower.

Maybe the blonde, Austin Amber is trying to explain to Johnny about the rumors about James Franco. Don’t you just love TMZ kind of stuff?

Will let you know when the new date is picked and if Ms. Amber will be in attendance.

In the meantime, that cute dress doesn’t have to stay in the closet. See if there are any tickets left for the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin’s appearance for CitySquare’s “A Night To Remember” at the Winspear.

Les Femmes Du Monde’s Black Tie Gala Moved To Spring 2015

Les Femmes du Monde’s black-tie gala is still on, but at a different time of the year. Instead of the November 8th date at Prestonwood Country Club, it will be held in the spring. An exact date is still being picked.

Stay tuned.

JUST IN: Thursday’s Zoo To Do Kick-Off Party Postponed A Week

Lola (File photo)

Lola (File photo)

Due to circumstance beyond their control, the humans involved in the President Circle Savanna Sundowner/Zoo To Do Kick Off party Thursday night have postponed the event until Thursday, May 15.

The reason? Mother Nature is bristling with scary weather, and one just doesn’t want to chance an outdoor event when the sky is going to fall, don’t you know?

So, the Dallas Zoo residents and their trusty fundraisers are going to chill for a week.

JUST IN: Zoo-T-Do Reveal Party Postponed Due To Fair-Weather Friends

Rosie (File photo)

Rosie (File photo)

This afternoon’s Zoo-To-Do theme announcement party at Lela Rose has been postponed. But it may not be for the reason you suspect. Co-Chairs Tiffany Divis and Jennifer Houser and their pals were all looking forward to learning the plans for the Dallas Zoo fundraiser on Saturday, November 1.

Then what, pray tell, was the reason?

The real party animals. Seems that the Dallas Zoo ambassadors don’t get to party in frigid weather conditions.

Good for organizers to wait till the sun shines and the critters can come out and play.

JUST IN: Tonight’s Artists Against Alzheimer’s Is Postponed To March 18

Tonight’s Artists Against Alzheimer’s at Museum Tower benefiting A.W.A.R.E. has been postponed to Tuesday, March 18.

No wonder the theme is Silver And Ice for the April fundraising dinner. The entire A.W.A.R.E. crew has gotten used to a frigid situation. Ice Bowl veteran quarterback Bart Starr is the speaker. The A.W.A.R.E. holiday tea was held at Linda Ivy’s home the last day of December’s ice storm, at which time the Ivy fountain froze.

Regarding the dinner, one organizer wondered aloud, “Snow in April?”

This decision is probably wise. The snowy stuff that is melting due to traffic will likely freeze up due to temperatures that are predicted to stay below freezing until tomorrow.

JUST IN: Fashion Stars For A Cause Patron Party Postponed

Word just arrived that tonight’s Fashion Stars For A Cause patron party at Diamond Doctor has been postponed to a later date due to the weather.

Translation: Stay at home and be fashionably warm.

UPDATE: The new date for the champagne toast to the patrons and Honorary Co-Chairs Melody and Rick Rogers is Thursday, February 27.

Update: Margaret Folsom Memorial Service Is Rescheduled

Due to the inclement weather, the memorial services for Margaret Folsom have been rescheduled from today to Monday.
