Thursday, June 2, may have seemed to many to be the start of summer. For the Crystal Charity Ball committee, it was the halfway mark in their march to the December 3rd fundraiser for Dallas County children.
And to take the temperature of their efforts, they held the appropriately named “Midpoint Luncheon” at Salum for the seventh year, despite Chef/Owner Abraham Salum being in Mexico City due to a prior commitment. Ah, but Abraham’s influence was definitely on the menu and DeWaine Muzny was on the spot to make sure it came off.
With the CCB Chair Christie Carter establishing the internal working theme as “Steel Magnolias,” Abraham had a luncheon that would delight even the most demanding Southern belle. It included appetizers (deviled eggs, pimento cheese with toast and pickled vegetables), entree (mixed green salad with corn and fried-green tomatoes topped with crab salad) and dessert (peach fried pie with caramel ice cream).
Before luncheon was served, Christie provided a status report including the fact that the Friday, September 16th Ten Best Dressed Fashion Show was in “waiting-list” mode and that “we have reached our midpoint goal!”
Afterwards, awards were presented for committee members who were leading the charge for the $5,650,258 goal.
