With the 10th anniversary of Heroes for Children coming up, the core group decided to do something different from the annual Heroes And Handbags fundraising luncheon.
Thursday, September 4, at The Mercury, the plans were unveiled. Talk about a change of plans!
In the private dining room with former chairs, board members and HfC staffers assembled, 10th Celebration Co-Chairs Skye Brewer and Jennifer Dix revealed those plans.
Ah, before they did, they announced a surprise that caught many off guard – Co-founder Larissa Linton had been named executive director! First up to congratulate her was Co-founder Jenny Scott Dowen. Both of these women established Heroes For Children when they personally experienced the agony, pain and loss of children to cancer. Turning that grief into gratifying effort, they started the organization to “provide desperately needed financial support and administrative guidance for” families” with children battling cancer.
But back to the plans for the 10th anniversary. Instead of a lunch, it will be a seated dinner at the Hilton Anatole for 650 including cocktails, dancing to Downtown Fever and a “surprise entertainment, as featured on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”
And what about its handbags. Shoot. There will be purses, and since the gents will be part of the guests, there will be “men’s items.”
The funds raised “will ensure that Heroes for Children continues to serve as an advocate for, and to provide social and financial assistance to, families with children battling cancer.”
