Last weekend a lot of folks strolled through charming mansions along Swiss Avenue. Great way to celebrate Mother’s Day.
This Saturday the home touring crowd will have the other end of the architectural spectrum for their review. It’s the 2014 Spring Modern Home Tour with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Dallas Architecture Forum and presented by Briggs-Freeman|Sotheby’s International Realty.
Jeff Levine, who publishes moderndallas.net, has created the self-guided driving tour of the four homes in the Park Cities, North Dallas and the Design District. He’s even arranged a cocktail party the night before.
Among the houses on the tour is the “Rose House” at 4504 Bordeaux, built in 1938. Whoa! Thought this was a tour of modern homes. It is and this is a perfect example. Designed by legendary Dallas architect Howard Meyer, it proves that the modern design is actually timeless.
The three other houses include:
- 5771 Berkshire Lane designed by Antonio de la Carrera and built in 2013
- 6166 Preston Creek Place designed by Jonathan Decambre and built in 2013
- 2514 Converse Street designed by Blane Ladymon and built in 2007.
Advance tickets can be snapped up for $20 per person. Come Saturday the tickets will be $25 per person.
There are some rules:
- Guests must wear provided blue shoe covers while inside tour houses.
- All children must be escorted and supervised at all times.
- Photography is limited to members of the media.

Thank you so much, Jeanne, for including the Spring Modern Home Tour. It is a wonderful opportunity to see classic and recent modern design and to enjoy the beautiful residence of Wlodek and Abby Malowanczyk, owners of Collage 20th Century Classics at the preview party.
