Swimming pools are officially opened and more popular than ever. And they’re more deadly than ever. While all the children and adults in the MySweetCharity community know how to swim, there are those who don’t.
Really?
Last year 74 Texas families arranged for their children’s funeral instead of future birthday parties because their child drowned.
As reported earlier, the Dallas Independent School District uses the Park South YMCA to teach students how to swim. Have you seen it? Pretty worn and torn and in need of repair.
Luckily, the Crystal Charity Ball gals learned of the dramatic number of drownings that occur due to lack of lessons and are making the Y’s facilities much more conducive to students and teachers.
Now, what can you do? Sure, you can support Crystal Charity or the Y with funding for the indoor pool facilities, but you can do something that’s absolutely free.
Ask any and everyone with a child a simple question, “Does your child know how to swim?” Unfortunately, if they answer, “No” or “I don’t know,” chances are the parent doesn’t know either. Tell them to head to the Y. They have all types of classes — from munchkins to grownups. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, kiddos can even be enrolled in swim lessons by the age of one. Yup, you read that one right. One year!
But if they answer a resounding, “I swim like a tadpole and so do the rest of the clan,” them tell them to pass the question along.
